Leveraging more than two decades of excellence in accounting, finance, and risk management, Ms. Richardson has earned distinction as a leader in her field. In this capacity, she is the chief risk officer for the Office of the Chief Financial Officer, District of Columbia Government. Since 2013, she has focused her efforts on the identification, assessment, and mitigation of risks across the Office of the Chief Financial Officer and ensuring that the organization is in complete compliance with the District of Columbia regulations and guidelines. She is a valued member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, the Association of Federal Enterprise Risk Management Professionals, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Association of Government Accountants, the Institute for Internal Controls, and the Government Finance Officers Association, National chapter. She also serves on the board as a program chair and meeting planner for the Government Finance Officers Association, Washington, DC chapter.
Prior to her current role, Ms. Richardson began her career as a manager for Grant Thornton LLP in 2004. She subsequently became a financial management consultant for AOC Solutions before starting as a risk manager and later the interim chief risk officer for the Office of the Chief Financial Officer, District of Columbia Government in 2013 and 2014 respectively before her appointment to chief risk officer in 2015. Her professional accomplishments includes assistant controller in the radio and television broadcasting space as a commercial traffic manager for NBC and Fox TV. Additional professional accomplishments include work as an adjunct professor where she taught accounting and business essential courses at a local community college in Virginia.
Separate from her primary career efforts, Ms. Richardson was the owner of Tiki & Me, a pet boutique in the prestigious National Harbor located in Prince George's County, Maryland for approximately four years. She has been the founder and director of Beyond Perfection Consulting, LLC since 1999, known as an event management company that provides a creative service, and a unique and refreshing approach to the development of every event. Additionally, she serves as a travel specialist/group coordinator who recruits and welcomes travel lovers, travel enthusiasts, and people who are excited and interested in traveling the world with Going Places Together, a travel service offered by her event management company. Among her professional accomplishments, she earned a Certificate of Appreciation from the Department of State for Outstanding Contribution through Management and Conduct of Audit Reviews and was named an award finalist for Outstanding Performance and Exemplary Service by DC Government employees from the Morris and Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation.
Before embarking on her professional journey, Ms. Richardson earned a Bachelor of Science in business administration from Wingate University in 1987. She then attained a Master of Business Administration, Financial Management from Southeastern University in 1998. Well-qualified in her field, she is a certified internal control auditor with the Institute of Internal Auditors Inc, a certified fraud examiner with the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, and a certified enterprise risk manager with Georgetown Washington University. Looking forward, Ms. Richardson intends to continue strengthening her executive leadership skills to contribute to the growth and continued success of her current employer, continue to help out in her community and explore entrepreneurial opportunities allowing her to grow her event management business and one day reopen her pet boutique.
