Mr. Kumar, founder and chief executive officer of Future Tech Transport, is recognized for his expertise in the transportation, logistics and freight brokerage fields. As a child, he aspired to be a dentist; however, after realizing the huge investment in time and money that his dream would require, he resolved to take a break from school for a year to work full-time and save money. This decision would inevitably alter his career path.
Growing up in a low-income household, Mr. Kumar had started working to help his family and provide for himself at the age of 13. His first job was as a cashier at Value Village in East Vancouver, but he soon advanced within the company, first becoming a truck driver, and then later becoming head of donations, and finally, head of warehousing and trucking. Once he was introduced to the lucrative nature of the logistics industry, he decided to abandon his earlier plans to become a dentist and moved onto a role as a trucking dispatcher and storage consultant at BigSteelBox, a company that specializes in renting and selling steel shipping containers for moving and storage in Canada. Later on, he decided to expand his horizons in the industry by accepting a role as trucking dispatcher, and later operations manager, at Speedee Transport, a handler of dry and temperature-controlled freight.
Upon gaining a full spectrum of experience in the industry, Mr. Kumar started his own transportation and logistics business, Future Tech Transport, in 2019, in collaboration with a business partner and an angel investor. Within two years, Mr. Kumar had bought out both the business partners and investors shares and gave them a strong return on investment. Today, the company has access to more than 500 trucks and 850 trailers in Canada and the United States. In addition, Future Tech Transport is the only transportation and logistics company in the province owned and run by millennials, making the company unique among its competition; in fact, Mr. Kumar has been named to BC Business Magazine's 2022 30 Under 30 list, and Future Tech Transport was recognized two years running as BC's Logistics Company of the Year by Canada Prestige Awards.
Among his many career achievements, Mr. Kumar is especially proud of the entrepreneurial success he has achieved, especially given his humble roots. Many friends and relatives doubted his ability to make a name for himself, but through hard work, he has proven them wrong. Aiding Mr. Kumar in his success was his formative experience in martial arts, which he began studying at the age of 10; this exposure kept him busy, disciplined and less vulnerable to the challenges that so often ensnare at-risk youth.
Growing up, Mr. Kumar enjoyed volunteering at the Burnaby Judo Club. Looking toward the future, he plans to become a member of the Entrepreneurs' Organization and grow his business to qualify for membership with the Young Presidents' Organization. In the long term, he strives to help the next generation by providing consulting services and speaking at seminars about the logistics industry.
