Leonard Jerome DiGiovanni, EdD, Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

    POMPTON PLAINS, NJ, February 16, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Leonard Jerome DiGiovanni, EdD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. DiGiovanni celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. Dr. DiGiovanni has led a long and distinguished career as both an educator and academic administrator for the New York and New Jersey public school systems. Having retired from education in 1990, he spent the last several years of his vocation as the secretary of the board of business administration for the Board of Education in Belleville, New Jersey, from 1987 to 1988, followed by another one-year commitment as the secretary of the board and business manager for the Board of Education in Rochelle Park, New Jersey.

Accruing a wealth of expertise in the field as a teacher and elementary school principal, Dr. DiGiovanni was hired by Plainedge Public Schools in North Massapequa, New York, as its principal in 1957, shortly after acquiring a master's degree. Fifteen years later, he became the principal district curriculum coordinator for the South Plainfield School District in South Plainfield, New Jersey. Over the next 30 years, Dr. DiGiovanni acquired several additional leading roles, including as the superintendent of schools in Fairfield, New Jersey. Additionally, Dr. DiGiovanni had the opportunity to serve as a consultant and program coordinator for the New Jersey Department of Education and as the interim superintendent of schools for the Springfield Public Schools in Springfield, New Jersey.

As an extension of his professional expertise, Dr. DiGiovanni functioned as an officer in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1950 until 1988. He served as an instructor at the First Guided Missile School and at the Command and General Staff College. He was also an adjunct professor and education instructor at Saint John's University in Queens, New York, and Kean College in Union, New Jersey, and a lecturer at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey.

Supporting various civic, educational, and nonprofit interests, Dr. DiGiovanni has been a member of the New York University Roundtable, Optimists International, and the Freemasons. Furthermore, he served as co-founder of the Watchung Arts Council, and was a lead actor in the Cedar Crest Drama Club. He was a 12-year president of the Upper Mountain Garden Condo Association in Montclair, NJ and he served as a three-term president of the Montclair AARP Chapter 131 and he also served for 12 years on the AARP State Advisory Council.

In preparation for his career, Dr. DiGiovanni received a Bachelor of Science in biology and philosophy, as well as and second lieutenant (ROTC) from Fordham College in 1950, followed by a Bachelor of Science in education from City College of New York in 1951, a Master of Science in education from Rutgers University in 1957 and a Doctor of Education from New York University (NYU) in 1970.

Dr. DiGiovanni is a professional member of the National Education Association, the National Elementary Principals Association, the Association of School Business Officials International and the International Platform Association. Additionally, he was recognized with a Silver Medal for Drama at Grover Cleveland High School. Dr. DiGiovanni also received a National Science Foundation grant in 1959 and a Founders Day Award from NYU, as well as an AARP National Chapter and Unit Community Service Award in 2001, and an Outstanding State Leadership Award from the NJ AARP in 2002.
