She was inspired to start her school by her own experiences as a non-native English speaker, natively fluent in Armenian and Russian before ever learning English. Accounting for her success under these challenges, she credits her parents, who raised her to be open-minded and overachieving. Her mother also encouraged her to learn English, despite her belief they would not be able to travel to the United States from Russia.
