KATY, TX, February 24, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Corlice Joseph Mims has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Ms. Mims is distinguished for her five years in the philanthropy field. In 2017, she founded the Mims Family Matters Foundation, Inc., a charitable giving organization that addresses the needs of economically disadvantaged families. In addition to creating the foundation, she serves as its director; her responsibilities include identifying pressing needs for her foundation to work on and sourcing funding for foundation projects. Ms. Mims derives a deep sense of accomplishment from making a difference in the lives of children and families, though she stresses that her organization has only just begun to change the fabric of society and there is much more work to be done.

A certified medical technologist, Ms. Mims earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Louisiana at Monroe (formerly Northeast Louisiana University) and has worked in laboratories since 1981, performing laboratory tests for hospitals. In 2004, she started focusing on the information technology aspect of her field when she realized that IT was a way to remain connected to the laboratory and still contribute to quality patient care. In 2012 she founded CJM IT Consulting, Inc., which specializes in hospital laboratory systems. In 2018 Mrs. Mims began consulting at HL Moffitt Cancer Center and became a full-time employee in 2020 due to the decline in the healthcare consulting market. Today, adjacent to her work with the Mims Family Matters Foundation, Ms. Mims works as a clinical systems analyst at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida. Corlice hopes to relaunch CJM IT Consulting, Inc. as a vehicle to continue to fund her nonprofit organization.

While Ms. Mims had dreamed for a decade of founding a philanthropic organization, she was motivated to form the Mims Family Matters Foundation in January 2017, seven months before Hurricane Harvey, a Category 4 hurricane that devastated parts of Texas and Louisiana in August. In that storm, several schools in low-income areas of Houston, including J. C. Mitchell Elementary School, were flooded. With the help of her husband and his chief executive officer, Ms. Mims raised funds and assisted families in the region by providing them with towels, blankets and school supplies; they then duplicated the effort for families in Ms. Mims's hometown of New Iberia, Louisiana, ensuring they had food, supplies, and toys, especially during Thanksgiving and Christmas. Since then, the foundation has also worked with Jeanerette High School in Iberia Parish to supply backpacks for all entering freshman students and Mitchell Elementary to supply two uniforms for each student to ensure that students were prepared to be successful.

Having a good foundation during her childhood has been the key to Ms. Mims's professional and philanthropic success. Her parents, John Berry and Anna "Patsy" Francis Joseph, were not wealthy, but they were deeply committed to helping others. Ms. Mims did not realize the extent of her parents' impact on the community until they passed away and people started telling her and her siblings stories about how their parents helped them with everything from lunch money to clothes and tuition. Listening to these neighbors made her see that servant leadership has always been in her DNA. Ms. Mims's passion for helping families navigate challenges also emerged from her experience of raising her children while living away from home and being too embarrassed to call home and ask for help.

Looking toward the future, Ms. Mims intends to dedicate herself full-time to the goals of the Mims Family Matters Foundation. One of her goals is to purchase homes with spacious yards for families in need so the children can grow up with a backyard; critically, Ms. Mims wants the properties to be located in middle-class neighborhoods, rather than economically disadvantaged ones, so the families can be inspired by what is possible for them. She hopes to further educate the families about home ownership and fiscal responsibility.

Outside of her philanthropic and professional careers, Ms. Mims enjoys spending time with her husband, Richard, her children, and her nine grandchildren. She is an officer with the local chapter of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. When not working on her pet projects, Ms. Mims relaxes by working puzzles (jigsaw, crossword, logic), reading, dancing or traveling.

Mims Family Matters Foundation (DBA Family Matters Foundation) is a 501(c)3 charitable organization: www.familymattersfoundation.net.
