Ms. Stokes won the Urban Land Institute Award for Excellence in 2022.

Since the start of the Coronavirus pandemic, she has managed daily business operations for the outdoor space, which was established with the help of United Way, Mars Wrigley, and the City of Chicago. Alongside her work with POPCourts, Ms. Stokes is the owner of VS Creative Consulting, which focuses on community revitalization via community engagement and project management services. Through VS Creative, she organizes and implements a wide range of strategies that stress the importance of community investment and empowerment for communities of color.
During the early stages of her career, Ms. Stokes gained valuable expertise in the field as the director of economic development for Westside Health Authority and as an interim executive director for the Kehrein Center for the Arts. Outside of her work, she dedicates herself to those around her as the president of the Austin Town Hall Park Advisory Council, chair of the Austin Town Hall Park Art and Culture Committee, and volunteer with The Hatchery Community Advisory Committee.
In light of her outstanding body of work, Ms. Stokes won the Urban Land Institute Award for Excellence in 2022. While her career has been filled with highlights, she takes the most pride in establishing POPCourts and winning the aforementioned award for making an impact in Chicago, the country, and the world. Though hard work and dedication have brought her far, she credits her success to the relationships she has built with others and her drive to help her community. Within the next five years, Ms. Stokes aims to develop cafés and become a community developer to create sustainable housing in her area.
