Elvia Benitez Recognized for Service as an Accountant

At the beginning of her career journey, Ms. Benitez earned a college degree at the Mexico Autonomous Institute of Technology in her native Mexico before moving to the United States in 1966. Shortly thereafter, she began working in the tax industry when her uncle, Raul Enriquez, asked her if she wanted to work as his secretary at his tax preparation business. Needing a job, she accepted and was happy to find she enjoyed and felt passionate about the field. In 1970, Ms. Benitez achieved a degree in accounting from Los Angeles Pierce College in California and went on to establish The Tax Experts in Granada Hills, California that same year.

Today, Ms. Benitez continues to excel as an accountant with The Tax Experts. She remains an accomplished accountant and entrepreneur with 50 years of expertise encompassing tax preparation, payroll and bookkeeping. Her day-to-day duties include tax preparation and paperwork, administrative tasks and client correspondence, and she also previously provided her expertise to immigration cases between 1966 and 2004. With more than 5,000 clients on her roster, she has worked with clients throughout California, Nevada, Kentucky, Oklahoma, New York and Florida. When she is not working, Ms. Benitez is an active member of her community and has been closely involved with her local church for many years, where she has been recognized for her service.

Finding vast success throughout the course of her career, Ms. Benitez has been the recipient of numerous honors for accounting and community service. Notably, she has received accolades from both the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce and the San Fernando Valley Chamber of Commerce. Her expertise has also earned her the Latino Professional Award from the Los Angeles Latino Chamber of Commerce. Above all, Ms. Benitez is most proud of having a job that she loves and allows her to help others by providing them with careful, skilled and trustworthy service.

Having accomplished much over the course of her career, Ms. Benitez attributes much of her success to her love of her job, which translates to treating her clients like family and ensuring that they receive the best service. She also credits her success to her genuine passion for helping others and to her uncle, for inspiring her to enter the field and providing her with her earliest professional experience. Working for his office allowed her to gain familiarity with all areas of the tax industry before ultimately forming her own successful firm, for which she is eternally grateful. To young and aspiring professionals, Ms. Benitez would advise that "You need to like what you do, so you get that passion. You need to like people."

Now in her mid-70s, Ms. Benitez hopes to continue doing tax work for as long as she is able, as she has no plans to slow down. She also hopes to leave a legacy as someone skilled in making people feel comfortable and that they were in good hands. Her life motto goes, "You got to do things right." Ms. Benitez is the proud mother of three children, Karla Epps, Elvia Monique Smith and Mark Anthony Benitez, and the doting grandmother to two grandchildren, Couto and Cristian.
