For more than 25 years, Mr. Makabe has thrived as the design principal at Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates (KPF). He specializes in the design of luxury hotels, large commercial buildings and skyscrapers all over the world. Mr. Makabe also focuses on initiating projects that meet the needs of local communities and providing mentorship to his younger colleagues.

In addition to his responsibilities with KPF, Mr. Makabe currently contributes to the architecture department of Oklahoma State University as an advisory board member. He had previously earned a Bachelor of Architecture from the aforementioned institution after emigrating from Japan to the United States in 1991. In order to stay up to date with the latest developments in his field, Mr. Makabe maintains an active affiliation with the American Institute of Architects.

In 2014, Mr. Makabe was distinguished amongst the Outstanding 50 Asian Americans in Business on behalf of the Asian American Business Development Center. Along with his exceptional work ethic, he attributes a great deal of his success to the influence of his uncle, who enjoyed his own prosperous career as a business professional. In the coming years, Mr. Makabe intends to further his international reputation by continuing to design notable structures in multiple regions including Asia, Europe and Middle East.
