ELLICOTT CITY, MD, March 09, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Claudiu Austin, MD, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Austin is an experienced internist who was invited in 2014 to join the International Consortium on Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, a global group of experts. Their collaboration resulted in the 2017 publication of a special issue of American Journal of Medical Genetics containing EDS re-classification and management guidelines. EDS is a disease of collagen making joints, ligaments, and cartilage too flexible, which leads to early joint degeneration, poor muscle conditioning, poor wound healing, neurological symptoms, and vascular or organ ruptures.

Dr. Austin also serves as the owner and founder of Claudiu Austin, MD, LLC, in Silver Spring, Maryland, since 2019, a private practice dedicated to Ehlers-Danlos Syndromes, rare diseases and mystery diagnoses.

Dr. Austin began his medical career as a resident physician at Providence Hospital. Three years later, he became an internal medicine physician and internal medicine attending at Southern Maryland Hospital between 2009 and 2010. Dr. Austin also served in several other roles, including as an attending physician at Prince George's Hospital Center's Hospitalist Management Group, and as a hospitalist physician at several other medical facilities.

He joined Sinai Hospital of Baltimore as hospitalist physician in 2019. He also began chairing the Acute Care MDC committee in 2021 and has been a medical executive committee member since 2023. In addition to his clinical responsibilities identifying acute diseases and caring for patients suffering from chronic conditions, Dr. Austin has been affiliated with The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore as an instructor of medicine since 2020, and with George Washington University Medical School as Faculty Member.

As a respected researcher, Dr. Austin has also published several works in his area of expertise, including EDS, sepsis, and pharmacology. He has also lectured before various professional groups on these many topics.

One of Dr. Austin's future goals is to collaborate with Johns Hopkins to establish a hypermobility clinic. He would also like to train medical students and residents on campus about EDS. Additionally, Dr. Austin aims to begin writing several medical courses about the art of medicine as opposed to merely the science of medicine.

Dr. Austin received an undergraduate degree in biology and chemistry in 1987, followed by a Doctor of Medicine at Iuliu Hațieganu University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Cluj-Napoca Romania in 1995. He subsequently received a Master of Public Health in Health Administration at the Western University of Arad in Romania in 2004. He started an Internal Medicine internship in 2006 and in 2009 completed a residency in Internal Medicine in Washington, D.C., at Providence Hospital affiliated with George Washington University. Dr. Austin is board certified through the American Board of Internal Medicine. He speaks several languages, including English, Hungarian, Romanian, Spanish, and French.

As a part of his commitments to the medical industry, Dr. Austin is a member of the American Medical Association, the American Society for Apheresis, the Ehlers-Danlos Society, and the American College of Physicians.

In recognition of his professional success, Dr. Austin received a Caregiver of the Month Award from the Ceca Foundation in 2018. He was also named among America's Top Physicians in 2012 and 2013.
