James Newton Fordemwalt, PhD, Celebrated for Excellence in the Field of Engineering

James Newton Fordemwalt served as an expert in microelectronics engineering technology



Since his retirement in 2001, he has found much success as a professor emeritus at the Arizona State University.

    MERIDIAN, ID, March 09, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- James Newton Fordemwalt, PhD, is a distinguished biographee of Marquis Who's Who. Since his retirement in 2001, he has found much success as a professor emeritus at the Arizona State University, where he initially served as an associate professor and a laboratory manager from 1987 until 2001. During this time, he was also active as the University's assistant department chair of electronics and computer technology, and an associate chair of microelectronics from 1992 to 2001. Additionally, Dr. Fordemwalt has served as an engineering consultant for the Western Design Center in Mesa, Arizona since 1980, and was a member of the semiconductor committee of the United Technologies Corporation between 1978 and 1987.

Dr. Fordemwalt initially began his career serving as a senior engineer at General Electric from 1959 to 1960, before joining Semcor, where he operated in a similar capacity from 1960 to 1961. Following this post, he was active as a section manager of the semiconductor products division at Motorola until 1966, and a department manager of the microelectronics division at Philco-Ford from 1966 until 1968. Between 1968 and 1971, he garnered expertise as an associate director of research and development at American Microsystems Inc. Dr. Fordemwalt subsequently transitioned to the field of academia in 1972, when he began working as an associate research professor at The University of Utah, and from 1976 until 1987, he excelled as the director of the microelectronics laboratory at The University of Arizona.

Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Dr. Fordemwalt pursued an education at The University of Arizona, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in 1955, followed by a Master of Science in 1956. He continued his academic efforts at The University of Iowa, earning a Doctor of Philosophy in 1960. As a commitment to his field, Dr. Fordemwalt was active with several industry-related organizations, including the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the International Society for Hybrid Microelectronics, The Electrochemical Society and the City of Chandler Municipal Airport Commission, where he served as chairman for nine years.

Well-regarded for his contributions to the field, Dr. Fordemwalt has received multiple awards, including the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award and the Marquis Who's Who Humanitarian Award. Additionally, he has been recognized as a Marquis Who's Who Top Professional and featured in Forbes Magazine, Fortune Magazine, Bloomberg Magazine, Entrepreneur Magazine, Millennium Magazine and the Marquis Who's Who in the World publication, to only name a few. Among his professional accomplishments, Dr. Fordemwalt is most proud of his teaching career, publishing his book, the "Silicon Wafer Processing Technology," and his work with Bob Jarvick at The University of Utah Institute for Biomedical Engineering, where he engineered microchips for the artificial heart, eye and ear project.
