Leveraging more than two decades of excellence in civil and environmental engineering, Dr. Keller has earned distinction as a professor with the Bren School of Environmental Science and Management of the University of California, Santa Barbara. Since 1997, he has focused his efforts on teaching courses on water resources management, energy and water quality issues, emerging water contaminants and reuse of water. Likewise dedicated to civil advocacy, he lends his expertise as a member of the City of Santa Barbara Water Commission.
Prior to his current role, Dr. Keller began his career as a research and development manager for Grupo Summa in 1980 and worked with the Electric Power Research Institute from 1991 until 1996. During this time, he was also a researcher with Stanford University. Over the course of his career, he has contributed a wealth of research to the field, including co-authoring "Stability and aggregation of metal oxide nanoparticles in natural aqueous matrices" for Environmental Science and Technology in 2010, "Global life cycle releases of engineered nanomaterials" for the Journal of Nanoparticle Research in 2013 and "Engineered nanomaterials for water treatment and remediation: Costs, benefits, and applicability" for the Chemical Engineering Journal in 2016, among other works.
Among his professional accomplishments, Dr. Keller is proud to have received a special award for his contributions to the understanding of the implications of nanotechnology from the Sustainable Nanotechnology Association. He was part of the team that received the US Water Prize for developing a program that reduced widespread water pollution in 2005 and was himself honored with an Agilent Thought Leadership Award from Agilent Technologies, Inc. in 2015 for his leadership in understanding the potential effects of nanotechnology on the environment. He has also received a Distinguished Teaching Award three times from the University of California, Santa Barbara for his stellar work with his students.
Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Dr. Keller earned a Bachelor of Arts in chemical engineering from Cornell University in 1980. Following this accomplishment, he attained a Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy in civil and environmental engineering in 1996, both from Stanford University.
Within the coming years, Dr. Keller intends to continue building his legacy through his mentorship work and by addressing some of the biggest environmental concerns in the world. He is most dedicated to protecting the environment and solving environmental issues, utilizing his creativity to pursue new directions and ideas in his research.
