ST. PAUL, MN, March 22, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Jessica Rebecca Urban has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Leveraging more than a decade of excellence in data sciences, Ms. Urban has earned distinction as the founder, owner and chief executive officer of Starbase Software Systems. Since 2022, she has focused her efforts on managing and building her company, to now offer stellar services in data science and computer engineering.

Prior to her current role, Ms. Urban grew up the middle child of six and was educated in a home schooling community where she took weekly classes with a small group of kids her age that were taught by paid professionals. She started college two years early, attending at Anoka Ramsey Community College where she earned an Associate of Arts in 2008, the same year she received her high school diploma. Since starting work at the age of 14, she has had dozens of jobs prior to beginning her data science career, including working in restaurants, healthcare, sales, and administrative jobs, and she received certifications as a water safety instructor, lifeguard, and certified nursing assistant.

In her first year of college, she applied for a grant to become a young scholars researcher for the University of St. Thomas with her favorite psychology professor, Dr. Bock, on the topic of morality and identity. She then served as a city-wide leader and researcher for the Minneapolis Police Department in 2010, where she ran and analyzed a program working to improve the relationships between inner-city youth and their police force. She was a student worker in various roles for the University of St. Thomas from 2008 until 2010, many of which involved her taking a primary role in the data collection, management, and analysis to improve the school's programs. This included a role as a leadership coordinator for the Center for Intercultural Learning and Community Engagement at the university from 2009 until 2012, a research assistant for the Behavioral Research Center, and an assistant project manager for the Opus College of Business, both in 2011.

Ms. Urban completed overseas studies in theology from The Cradle of Early Christianity in Turkey and Greece in 2010. She subsequently attained a bachelor's degree in psychology, and a bachelor's degree in English with an emphasis in writing, as well as a minor in philosophy from the University of St. Thomas in 2012 and gained a Master of Science in data science from the same institution where she took night classes while working full-time, graduating in 2016.

After receiving her undergraduate degrees, Ms. Urban was a research project coordinator for the Department of Veterans Affairs in 2012 where she led and ran six different research studies on veteran's mental health, including partaking in the first ground breaking studies that successfully administered ketamine to cure depression. During her time in this role, she was also the copyeditor with Well-Read Mom in 2014 and was a data science intern with LinkUp Job Search Engine in 2015. Also in 2015, she became a solutions engineer for Sovos and was promoted to a software engineer in 2016. She continued her career as a data engineer for Thomson Reuters in 2016 and for UnitedHealth Group in 2018. She became a lead data engineer for AIM Consulting Group in 2020 and for Sofar Sounds in 2021.

Outside of her primary career efforts, Ms. Urban has published numerous research articles and delivered presentations on technology, morality and identity. She was the copyeditor for "Journal: Year of the Mother" and "Reading Companion: Year of the Spouse" during her time with Well-Read Mom. She also co-authored "Access, Utilization, and Interest in mHealth Applications among Veterans Receiving Outpatient Care for PTSD," which published in 2014 in Military Medicine. Among her professional accomplishments, she was one of two individuals among 1000 employees who earned the High-Five Employee Recognition Award from Sovos Compliance for her Affordable Care Act integration for the Solutions Engineers in 2016.

From her early scholarship experience in research, Ms. Urban is passionate about data literacy, defined as combining wisdom, adventure, art, history, philosophy, and psychology into the modern processes and tools found in the STEM fields, most importantly in the field of data science and artificial intelligence (AI). She hopes to share this passion with others to help them gain control over their data and an understanding of how to use data as fuel for AI. Ms. Urban recently took some time off from working as a data engineer in order to establish the foundation for a software company idea that has been at the heart of her career path since the beginning. Starbase Software Systems is established on the values of freedom, opportunity, and archetypal truth. She hopes to help others use data and technology to gain a self-sufficiency in life that keeps them on their own feet and gains them independence. Ms. Urban has established this within her own life. She has worked hard to gain significant accomplishments in real estate rentals and through this has built her home into a passive money earning investment. By working remotely as a consultant in data engineering she has given herself the freedom to travel and work on her own schedule. Last year she drove a travel trailer across the country working as a data nomad and setting up her desk in different locations along the western United States. She has now brought a handful of women into her company as data apprentices to begin building her vision of a data literacy program that will encourage them to build an independent and self-sufficient lifestyle.

Within the coming years, Ms. Urban intends to establish a physical location for her company, enabling her to become a significant resource in data science education. In order to accomplish this objective, she will offer an online data literacy course that includes data apprenticeship and shadowing experiences while creating database pipeline templates that women can incorporate into their entrepreneurial value-based work. She hopes to share her passion for data literacy through her AI artwork and in the near future a data literacy podcast to generate excitement about data science and AI so that the public can understand its role in the future, making the field accessible to people of all backgrounds.
