PEORIA, AZ, March 27, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Rhonda L. Carlson, MPA, has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. Joining the Peoria Chamber of Commerce in 2022, Ms. Carlson serves as the organization's newest president and chief executive officer. Having spent more than 15 years in the nonprofit sector where she gained significant expertise in all areas of operational, account management, and developmental roles, she excels in her new position. Following in the Chamber's mission to advocate for local businesses and promote economic development in the region, Ms. Carlson enjoys supporting its members and working together with local leaders to address vital needs.
Relocating from Ohio to Arizona in 2018, Ms. Carlson was recruited by Arizona Disabled Sports as the executive director. Headquartered in Mesa, the nonprofit organization notably provides adaptive sports and recreation programs for individuals with disabilities. Ms. Carlson previously progressed in various roles at The Center for Health Affairs/CHAMPS Healthcare, beginning in 2008 as a temporary administrative assistant. She was subsequently hired on a full-time basis as a business operations specialist, manager of business operations, manager of business development, account manager, and national account manager of home care and alternative markets in their Group Purchasing division.
Looking toward the future, Ms. Carlson aims to grow the Peoria Chamber's membership and become more connected to the community. She is particularly interested in helping prepare secondary and college students in their paths post-graduation with the newly formed Education & Workforce Development Committee and Young Professionals Group at the Peoria Chamber. Proud of how far she has come in a relatively short amount of time, she attributes her success to her parents and an incredible support system at home, which enabled her to return to college in 2015 to receive her master's degree in public administration and nonprofit management while working full-time and raising her son as a single mother. Ms. Carlson also attributes her drive and perseverance to her passion for helping to make her community a better place to live and work.
A dedicated civic leader, Ms. Carlson previously served as the president for the Young Buckeyes of Greater Cleveland alumni club, vice president of communications for the Student-Alumni Council Alumni Society, director of development for the Carmella Rose Health Foundation, and board member for the Mesa Regional Foundation for Accessibility, Diversity, and Inclusion – all volunteer roles. Ms. Carlson was also a mentor at Cleveland State University, a health impact committee member of the United Way of Greater Cleveland, and a community outreach team lead and kids' ministry volunteer for Journey Community Church. She currently serves as president for the Student-Alumni Council Alumni Society.
In preparation for her career, Ms. Carlson achieved a Bachelor of Arts in English at The Ohio State University in 2005, followed by a Master of Public Administration with a focus on nonprofit management at Cleveland State University in 2018.
