Michael Joel McDowell, MPA, MPSA, has been Inducted into the Prestigious Marquis Who's Who Biographical Registry

Mr. McDowell has earned distinction as a Deputy United States Marshal with the United States Marshals Service.

    RIVERDALE, GA, April 14, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Michael Joel McDowell, MPA, MPSA, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Leveraging several years of excellence in law enforcement with a specialization in community-oriented policing, Mr. McDowell has earned distinction as a Deputy United States Marshal with the United States Marshals Service. Since 2022, he has focused his efforts on judicial security, including protecting judicial officers and courtroom operations. Additionally, he has lent his expertise as a political science instructor for West Georgia Technical College since 2018 and for the University System of Georgia's eCampus since 2020, teaching government and criminology courses.

Prior to his current role, Mr. McDowell began his career as a law enforcement officer for the Carrollton Police Department in 2015 and was selected to serve on the Community Oriented Policing Services Unit in 2018. He was further promoted to the role of a supervisor on the COPS Unit in 2020. Additionally, he had served as a courtesy officer for Campus Life and Style from 2017 until 2022 and was a reserve patrol officer for the University of West Georgia from 2019 until 2022. Additionally, Mr. McDowell was also a courtesy officer for Caliber Living, LLC in 2020 until taking a role as a community program coordinator with the Carroll County Sheriff's Office in 2022.

Among his professional accomplishments, Mr. McDowell is proud to have organized a peaceful protest with the police and the community in Carrollton, Georgia as part of his efforts to promote community-oriented policing services. He received the B.L.U.E. Hero Award from the Fraternal Order of Police in 2016 and a Lee W. Walsh Award from the League of Woman Voters in 2017. Additionally, he was honored with a Thriving Under Thirty Award for his significant impact on his field by the University of West Georgia Alumni Association in 2021. He was also admitted to Columbus State University's Georgia Law Enforcement Command College, where traditionally candidates with the rank of lieutenant or higher were accepted, entering the program as a police officer.

Likewise dedicated to civil advocacy, Mr. McDowell served as a board member for the Carroll County CASA and is an inductee to the Dawn Breakers Rotary Club. During his time as a police officer, he partnered with his church, Church Without Walls-Carrollton, which initiated community-centered programs including annual bike giveaways, car seat giveaways, clothing drives and fundraising campaigns. His dedicated efforts in providing free child seats for more than 200 families and educating them about car seat safety earned him a Service Above Self Award from the Carrollton Dawnbreakers Rotary. He himself has also worked with various local organizations and businesses as the point person to raise funds for different causes benefiting the Carroll community, such as raising awareness for civil rights initiatives and enhancing police legitimacy throughout the Carroll County community.

Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Mr. McDowell earned a Master of Public Administration with a concentration in public management from the University of West Georgia in 2017. Following this achievement, he attained a Master of Public Safety Administration with a concentration in executive leadership from Columbus State University in 2022. Well-qualified in his field, he holds numerous professional certifications, including supervision and mental health training, among others.

Within the coming years, Mr. McDowell intends to obtain a doctorate in criminal justice administration, either from Liberty University or Walden University. This will enable him to concentrate his career on education, whether by teaching at a university or a K–12 institution, potentially establishing a non-profit organization as well. As a passionate servant to his community, he aims to proactively educate others to keep the public and the communities he has been blessed to be a part of as safe as possible. Part of this goal is to focus his efforts on bridging the gap between law enforcement and legal studies for the community, potentially becoming involved in politics or increasing community policing initiatives in the future.
