Althoen, PhD, professor emeritus at the University of Michigan-Flint, has been selected for a cover feature in the Twelfth Edition of Marquis Millennium Magazine. Interested in attaining a higher education due to the influence of his father, Dr. Steven C. Althoen graduated with honors from Kenyon College with a BA in mathematics in 1969. Earning a PhD in mathematics from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York in 1973, he first worked at Hofstra University between 1973 and 1975 before relocating to Michigan, where he joined the faculty of the University of Michigan-Flint. Serving as an assistant professor, associate professor and full professor in the departments of mathematics and education, he attained the title of professor emeritus in 2010. During his tenure at the University of Michigan-Flint, he also served as chairman of the department of mathematics and sat on nearly two dozen committees. Likewise, he excelled as director of academic assessment in 2001 and was a consultant for Mott Community College from 2001 to 2003.
