Upon joining Grant Thornton LLP in 2021 Mr. Sen has been a key member of the Asset Management leadership team in the firm's metro New York practice. Since 2006, he has focused his efforts on assisting clients with taxation in the Alternative Investments fund space which includes hedge funds, private equity funds and venture capital funds. Mr. Sen specializes in the taxation of hedge funds and works with clients in various strategies ranging from long-short equity, credit focused structures, CLOs, commercial lending, multi-strategy platforms to hybrid fund of funds. He works closely with clients regarding tax planning and compliance, including fund formation, annual tax reporting and guidance on maneuvering among local, state, U.S. federal and international tax rules. Mr. Sen is also the managing member of JPY Investment Partners LLC, a real estate focused investment club which he founded with a few like-minded investment professionals in his home state of New Jersey. He also founded and is the sole owner of Indus Notary LLC which provides a one-stop shop of general notary services to his surrounding communities and he pledged all profits from this operation to Rotary Foundation's service projects. Additionally, he is a valued member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and is an active Rotarian, which allows him to keep family values and community service at the center of his life. Mr. Sen irrevocably believes in the Rotary motto: Service Above Self. He wants to serve the people of his community, country and the world in a way that has a positive and meaningful impact. Mr. Sen began his public accounting career in 2005 upon finishing graduate school as an audit staff with Deloitte, a big-4 accounting firm. In 2006 he changed his service line within Deloitte to focus on Taxation and was promoted to a Tax senior manager in 2015. His experience of more than 15 years with Deloitte was primarily in Asset Management where he provided exemplary tax compliance and advisory services to large hedge funds and private equity firms.
Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Mr. Sen earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science with a minor in Mathematics from St. John's University, NY in 2003 where he was a gold medalist and graduated top of the class with highest honors. Following this achievement, he attained a Master of Science in Accounting from The Peter J. Tobin College of Business at St. John's University in 2005. Well-qualified in his field, he is a Certified Public Accountant and an Enrolled Agent with the Internal Revenue Service. He also is a notary public with the State of New Jersey and is certified in the asset management industry by Grant Thornton LLP.
