As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are chosen from among a pool of the most prominent professionals and are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Fueled by his unique talent for solving complex mathematical equations, Mr. Sherin earned a Bachelor of Science in mathematics with minors in history and engineering at Geneva College in 1962. He subsequently began his academic career as mathematics and drafting teacher for the Rochester Area School District in Beavery County, Pennsylvania. During this period, Mr. Sherin and his students visited a data center within the Jones and Laughlin Steel Company, which has since merged with Republic Steel. The aforementioned trip inspired him to shift his focus to information technology and complete graduate coursework in assembly language programming at Duquesne University.

Between 1967 and 1980, Mr. Sherin thrived as an on-site analyst and as a head analyst at Control Data Corporation, which ceased operations in 1992. He subsequently found further success as a pre-sales analyst with Cray Research, which has since been acquired by Silicon Graphics until 1982, at which point he was recruited as a project leader with the Westinghouse Electric Corporation. Throughout the following 15 years, Mr. Sherin advanced to numerous leadership positions with the aforementioned manufacturing company, which was acquired by Paramount Global in 1999, including project leader, user consultant and system programmer.

During the late 1990s and early 2000s, Mr. Sherin served as a systems administrator with multiple pharmaceutical organizations such as Thrift Drug, Inc., which ceased operations in 2007, and UPMC Health Systems. Following these accomplishments, he was appointed as an instructor of mathematics, information technology, engineering and networking at the University of Pittsburgh Greensburg in 2006. Mr. Sherin served in this part-time capacity until 2021, at which point he issued his professional retirement.

Alongside his primary professional responsibilities, Mr. Sherin excelled as a scout master with the Boy Scouts of America for more than five years. He was also appointed as a representative and as a committee chairperson with the aforementioned youth organization. Since his retirement, Mr. Sherin has contributed to his local church in various volunteer capacities and he continues to participate in regular charitable events.

In recognition of his extensive involvement with the Boy Scouts of America, Mr. Sherin has been honored with multiple accolades including a Wood Badge and a Silver Beaver Award. In addition to his exceptional communication skills, he attributes a great deal of his success to his ability to capitalize on unforeseen opportunities. Mr. Sherin is particularly proud to have harnessed his expertise to elevate the careers of myriad students and colleagues. Since his fascination with perplexing mathematical quandaries has played a central role in his professional growth, he advises aspiring engineers and programmers to pursue their own technical and scientific interests with the utmost determination.
