Dr. van Loggerenberg joined the University of San Francisco in the fall of 2018, and has thrived as the director of the advertising program since the summer of 2021. With more than 20 years of advertising experience to his credit in leading roles at foremost companies and international agencies, he's developed and taught courses that relate to brand communication strategy, copywriting, and the art of persuasion. Dr. van Loggerenberg focuses on building the program in consultation with top agencies and industry stalwarts.
Prior to his recruitment at the University of San Francisco, Dr. van Loggerenberg excelled as the head of digital strategy for HelloFCB+, which is based in his native country of South Africa. Between 2011 and 2015, he established his instructional expertise as the academic head of brand and business leadership for the Independent Institute of Education's Vega School, the largest brand, business, and design school in South Africa. In this role he designed a Bachelors of Commerce degree and co-designed a BComm Honors degree. In 2012 he was selected for the Dr. Charles Freysen Teaching Excellence Award as national lecturer of the year.
Dr. van Loggerenberg has been consulting in marketing, and brand strategy & communications for known corporate brands, start-ups, agencies, publishing houses, and education and non-profit organizations internationally. He is a member of the Golden Key International Honor Society, the American Advertising Federation, and the Greater San Francisco Advertising Club where he headed up education and served as treasurer.
Dr. van Loggerenberg is a multi-published short story writer and also wrote for television. He project-managed a nationally broadcast branded entertainment show. His Ph.D. research that spanned six continents, focused on defining and building authentic narratives in branded entertainment; a highly developing discipline in brand strategy and communications. He is continuously working with his research team to develop the discipline, publishing in a variety of advertising industry publications and international academic journals.
Along with his firm commitment to his professional goals, he attributes a great deal of his success to his parents, both whom vehemently encouraged him to pursue his passion for advertising and academia. Dr. van Loggerenberg's father, Johan, was a historian and his mother, Annette, a teacher in home economics and biology, and college and university lecturer in home economics and early childhood education.
