Since 2000, she has focused her artistic efforts on jobs within the fashion industry. Additionally, she is a valued member of the Custom Designers Guild.
During her outstanding career, Ms. Zarate was referred to a custom designer who often worked in film media, allowing her to work collaboratively on "To Wong Foo Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar." She has also worked within the music industry, contributing fashion sketches with large productions for Katy Perry and Michael Jackson. Added to these accomplishments, she gave caricature illustrations for the Flintstones cartoon brand.
While engaging as a freelance illustrator, Ms. Zarate has also served as an instructor of fashion illustration for the Otis College of Art and Design since 1984. In preparation for her professional journey, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in history and philosophy from the University of California at Fullerton. Having been drawing fashion sketches since she was four years old, she was encouraged by a professor to pursue this passion as a fashion illustrator and broke into the industry working with a very small, privately-owned school.
Within the coming years, Ms. Zarate intends to take a step back from teaching, limiting her commitment to once a week if possible. A resilient person by nature, she is focused and determined on her work, and is glad to have had the opportunity to learn as well as teach about her passions.
Ms. Zarate is married to David Mudgway and they have a son, Graham Mudgway.
