Before accepting this position, he excelled across a variety of prior appointments, including as a board-certified surgeon in clinical practice with SurgOne PC from 1987 to 2014, where he expertly performed both general and transplant surgical procedures. Dr. Kortz most recently worked as an educator, teaching human anatomy and physiology to both high school and university undergraduate students between 2015 and 2022.

Dr. Kortz brings exceptional academic accomplishments to his position at Vertex, including a Bachelor of Science in chemistry from Dartmouth College and an MD from the University of Colorado School of Medicine, where he graduated with the honor of being salutatorian.
