Michael U. Ben-Eli, PhD, has been Inducted into the Prestigious Marquis Who's Who Biographical Registry

    NEW YORK, NY, June 05, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Michael U. Ben-Eli, PhD, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Leveraging more than four decades of excellence in sustainability and sustainable development, Dr. Ben-Eli has earned distinction as the founder of The Sustainability Laboratory. Since 2008, he has focused his efforts on developing innovative initiatives in this field. He is responsible for establishing a definition of sustainability more rigorous than the prevailing definition of the term and developing the widely acclaimed five core sustainability principles that offer a comprehensive framework for tackling sustainability-related issues. The laboratory has established activity centers and collaborations in dry land and deserts with the Jacob Blaustein Institutes for Desert Research in Israel; with Earth University in Costa Rica in relation to the dry and humid tropics; with the Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands, Spain, for island ecology, as well as the Royal University of Bhutan, where they hope to deal with high-altitude ecosystem issues.

In addition to research and development projects, The Sustainability Laboratory implements several educational programs, featuring the laboratory's sustainability principles and its system-based design approach. The Lab offers sustainability prize programs and it also provides a graduate summer program called Global Sustainability Fellows Program, which selects future leaders from different countries and allows them to gain rigorous exposure to sustainable development projects. Along with these endeavors, Dr. Ben-Eli serves as the chairman of the boards for Education for Nature Galapagos, and the Wadi Attir Association a groundbreaking community-based development initiative with the Bedouin community in Israel's Negev desert.

Prior to his current role, Dr. Ben-Eli founded and served as president of a the Cybertec Consulting Group, a management consulting firm that focused on issues of strategy development, change management and organizational design. Over the years he worked on synthesizing strategy issues in many parts of the world and in diverse institutional settings, ranging from small high technology firms to multinational enterprises, manufacturing companies, financial institutions, health care and educational organizations, governments, NGOs, and international multilateral organizations including the World Bank, the United Nations Environment Program, the Convention on Biological Diversity, the Global Environment Facility, and others.

Over the course of his career, Dr. Ben-Eli has pioneered applications of systems thinking and cybernetics in management and organization. Among his professional accomplishments, he was honored with a Synergetics Collaborative Cosmic Fishing Award for demonstrating a dedication to advancing the use of R. Buckminster Fuller's Design Science strategies in helping humanity better understand complex connections within natural systems. This award was presented during the 6th Biennial Design Science Symposium at the Rhode Island School of Design in 2019. Additionally, he received a Lifetime Achievement Award and was inducted to the International Green Industry Hall of Fame in 2016 and was recognized for his outstanding contributions to the environment by My Hero in 2023.

Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Dr. Ben-Eli studied at the Architectural Association in London and earned a Doctor of Philosophy from the Institute of Cybernetics at Brunel University in England in 1976, where he studied under Gordon Pask. He collaborated closely with R. Buckminster Fuller on research involving advanced structural systems and issues concerning technology and world resources management.

Within the coming years, Dr. Ben-Eli intends to continue developing and institutionalizing the Sustainability Laboratory, which has completed its proof-of-concept stage after its first decade of successful operations that accomplished many impactful milestones with relatively modest resources. His goal is to elevate the initiative and involve the younger generations in the organization to ensure that the laboratory continues to flourish as it becomes the global go-to institution of sustainability.
