With more than two decades of dedicated excellence as an educator and author, Mr. Richards has earned distinction as the owner of Eric Richards Instructional Consulting, LLC. Since 2021, he has focused his efforts on providing world language consulting, training, and curriculum development services. Additionally, he has served as a German teacher at Fort Zumwalt North High School since 2004 and has been the department chair for the world languages department at the school since 2011. In this capacity, he teaches German languages classes and organizes trips with students to Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and other European countries, allowing students to engage with the imperative of learning diverse languages through experiencing different cultures.
In recognition of his dedication as an educator, Mr. Richards was honored with the "Distinguished Foreign Language Educator" Award by the Foreign Language Association of Missouri in 2019, was named the CSCTFL World Language Teacher of the Year in 2020 and was an ACTFL National World Language Teacher of the Year finalist in 2021, which he considers his crowning achievement. Additionally, he has been nominated multiple times as Educator of the Year at Fort Zumwalt North High School.
Among his professional accomplishment, Mr. Richards has authored numerous publications in German and English, for both students and professional educators. He has also had numerous speaking engagements over the course of his career, including serving as the keynote speaker and featured presenter for the Michigan World Language Association in 2021 and earning the Best of Missouri Presentation in 2019 by the Foreign Language Association of Missouri. He has also served as a presenter and trainer and was the lead author of the German curriculum for Voces Digital in 2021.
Also dedicated to civil advocacy, Mr. Richards volunteers his expertise with the St. Charles Borromeo Heritage Mass Society. He is a volunteer coach with the CYC Sports League as well as the St. Peters Athletic Association. Through his involvement in professional organizations, he also continues to support and advocate for language programs in schools and developing cultural competence for all learners.
To prepare for his professional journey, Mr. Richards completed an international internship at the Marquardt Group in Rietheim, Germany. He then earned a bachelor's degree in German and International Studies from Saint Louis University in 2000. Following this achievement, he attained a master's degree in Germanic languages, literatures and linguistics from Bowling Green State University in 2003. Additionally, he gained cybersecurity certification through Project Lead the Way. Looking to the future, Mr. Richards intends to continue growing professionally, including engaging in consulting work to help more educators and share the knowledge he has accumulated over his career.
