BROWNSVILLE, TX, June 21, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Jorge L. Flores has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Now retired, Mr. Flores enjoyed a long, successful, and diverse career for more than 40 years. After college, he began teaching high school mathematics at Brownsville High School in 1968. However, after two years in the classroom, he left education to pursue a position with U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Doubling his income, Mr. Flores spent the next 30 years in the government sector, beginning as an inspector and in subsequent roles as a supervisor and port director in Rio Grande City, Texas, Brownsville, Texas, and Norfolk, Virginia. As the director, Mr. Flores was primarily responsible for enforcing international laws, collecting revenue, and preventing narcotics smuggling. He and his team also managed approximately $350 billion in annual importations.

While employed by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Mr. Flores had the opportunity to serve as the Chapter 160 union president of the National Treasury Employees Union from 1971 to 1981. He was also instrumental in catching a criminal involved in the largest bank heist in United States history ($20 million) during the 1990s, one year after the incident occurred.

Besides his work in the U.S. government, Mr. Flores garnered success in real estate. Working part-time, he served as his firm's real estate broker and principal owner for over 30 years, specializing in residential and commercial sales.

In his downtime, Mr. Flores enjoys reading and writing, among other hobbies. He also authored a self-published, copyrighted autobiography to share with his family. Additionally, Mr. Flores has been active civically with several local organizations, including as a member and past president of the Mr. Amigo Association and the Sembradores Unidos Association. Both organizations provide scholarships to needy students in the area.

Mr. Flores graduated from La Joya High School in LaJoya, Texas, in 1965. Pursuing his professional goals, he achieved a Bachelor of Science in mathematics and Spanish at the University of Texas–Pan American in 1968. Mr. Flores also received credentials in real estate.

Honoring his exemplary work, Mr. Flores was among a group that was recognized with the Albert Gallatin Award, the highest career service award granted by the U.S. Treasury. In the 90's he was voted "Manager of the Year" in the Southwest Region. He also received the National Performance Review "Hammer Award" from Vice President Al Gore for "doing more with less."
