Craig Rieger, PhD Celebrated for Dedication to the Field of Control Systems Engineering

Dr. Craig Rieger lends years of expertise to his threat resilient control systems work with TRECS Consulting

Looking toward the future, Dr. Rieger intends to see the technologies on which he has worked continue to mature.

POCATELLO, ID, June 26, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Craig Rieger has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Backed by years of professional expertise in practical and theoretical control system engineering, Dr. Rieger pioneered the resilient control systems research area with an interdisciplinary team at Idaho National Laboratory and several universities. Advancing this threat resilience theme is his current focus as managing director of TRECS Consulting. Prior to establishing his consultancy, he worked for the Idaho National Laboratory in several positions, including directorate fellow, chief control systems research engineer, control systems lead, and instrumentation, control, and intelligent systems lead. Despite retiring from Idaho National Laboratory, Dr. Rieger assists the laboratory transition technologies that his team developed before he left.

Before embarking on his professional journey, Dr. Rieger earned a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering from Montana State University, Bozeman. Subsequently, he returned to his alma mater and received a Master of Science in chemical engineering before completing a PhD in measurements and controls from Idaho State University. Throughout his career, Dr. Rieger has contributed to a number of publications, including "Resilient control systems: Next generation design research," "A cyber resilient design for control systems" and a recent Wiley IEEE Book, "Resilient Control Architectures and Power Systems." He also holds patents in "Systems and Methods for Control System Security."

Although his career has been filled with highlights, he takes the most pride in establishing the interdisciplinary research area of threat-resilient control systems. In light of his team's achievement, a Region 6 IEEE Director's Award was presented in 2014. The cornerstone of his success lay in the many opportunities he has received over the years, in particular from Idaho National Laboratory, first in working as a practicing control systems engineer and then to use this experience to advance control system resilience through a distinctive signature initiative. Looking toward the future, Dr. Rieger intends to see the technologies on which he has worked continue to mature.
