A leader in the industry, Mr. Scatena is a Structural Engineer and Associate Vice President at Carollo Engineers, Inc., a foremost water treatment plant designer in Phoenix. Having joined Carollo in 2003, he provides his guidance and expertise to a large team of structural engineers, particularly those involved in digital structural design, in which he has extensive expertise. Mr. Scatena also designs large-scale water treatment plants, each ranging from $50 million to $250 million. Carollo Engineers, Inc. has been in the clean water industry since 1933. The company focuses on water and wastewater solutions, serving clients nationwide, from Hawaii to California, Tennessee, and beyond. The company also ensures improved performance, minimized risk, and capital savings. Positively impacting millions of lives every day, Carollo has completed more than 15,000 projects since its inception, and presently has approximately 150 projects underway.

Mr. Scatena's career in the industry dates to 1967, when he graduated from college. He has since completed more than 300 major design projects on college campus libraries, dormitories, and student centers throughout Pennsylvania, high voltage transmission lines and electrical switchyards throughout Arizona, and major water treatment plants in the west and southwest.

Before joining Carollo Engineers, Inc., Mr. Scatena was a structural engineer and technical consultant to the CEO of the Salt River Project (SRP) water and power utility, where he worked in Phoenix for 28 years. While at SRP, he also facilitated teams of employees to implement continuous improvement in quality of service to SRP's customers. Prior to SRP, he served in similar positions at Burns and Loewe Architects and Engineers in Scranton, Pennsylvania for 7 years, and Philco-Ford in Philadelphia for one year.

Becoming a well-written author, Mr. Scatena has published numerous professional articles in engineering magazines. He also authored two novels, ANTHRACITE GRADE SCHOOL ON IRISH HILL" via Tate Publishing, Inc. in 2016, and ANTHRACITE BOOT CAMP® via BookBaby Publishing, Inc. in 2021. Mr. Scatena's books result from his boyhood experience working in Pennsylvania coal mines from 1951 to 1959 with his father, who died in a tragic mine accident in 1959. Mr. Scatena graduated from Jenkins Township High School in 1959 and immediately enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps at age 17. He later acquired a B.S. in Civil Engineering from The University of Detroit Mercy in 1967. Mr. Scatena subsequently received credentials as a certified professional engineer in Pennsylvania, Arizona, and California.

Recognizing his professional success, Mr. Scatena received several accolades, including an Engineering Excellence Award from The Arizona Society of Professional Engineers for Civil and Structural Design for the 29 acre SilverKing Electrical Receiving Station in 1980. Coincidentally, his boyhood experience in coal mines also facilitated economic design of the access road tunnel to SilverKing. In 2021, he was honored with a Certificate of Excellence from the software manufacturer, Bentley Systems, Inc. for the digital structural modeling and design for the $100 Million Valencia Water Reclamation Plant in California.
