As an extension of his career, Mr. Stone is also the behavior and training manager at his local shelter, the Chemung County Humane Society and SPCA and a consultant for Best Friends Animal Society, a national organization that writes grants for underperforming shelters. As a part of his responsibilities, he helps the organization grow and develop its programs. Among various highlights, Mr. Stone's assignments have garnered him the opportunity to visit other areas, including Massachusetts, New Jersey, and Rhode Island. Aside from his work with Best Friends, he serves as a behavioral consultant for Rainbow of Hope Animal Rescue Inc. Mr. Stone previously consulted on behalf of Stray Haven Humane Society and the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
Apart from his work at Simpawtico, Mr. Stone has maintained a successful freelance illustration and graphic design business, Moulin Diesel. Launched in February 2012, he specializes in digital painting and design for web and print.
Looking toward the future, Mr. Stone envisions continued growth as a business owner. In addition to relocating his present facility to a larger one to service more dogs, he aims to open several new locations. Moreover, Mr. Stone hopes to begin contributing to academic publications and delivering speeches regarding his expertise to help more individuals and their canine friends.
Mr. Stone began his career in education as a teacher at La Joya Community High School in Avondale, Arizona, in 2003 and Southside High School in Elmira, New York, from 2007 to 2009. After several years in the classroom, he decided to change paths by pursuing a profession that was better suited for him. Having spent the next five years employed by Pet Smart in Horseheads, New York, between 2010 and 2015, Mr. Stone earned experience as both a district pet trainer and manager and began earning several certifications to continue progressing in his specialty.
Educated at Southern Oregon University, Mr. Stone acquired a Bachelor of Arts in British literature, magna cum laude, in 2002 and a Master of Education in secondary education and teaching, summa cum laude, in 2003. He holds several credentials in his field, including as a Certified Professional Dog Trainer and Knowledge Assessed (CPDT-KA) from the Certification Council of Professional Dog Trainers, and Certified Dog Behavior Consultant (CDBC) and Shelter Behavior Affiliate (SBA) through the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants, as a certified family dog mediator through the Family Dog Mediation Education Center, and as a pet CPR and first aid instructor through Pet Tech Productions Inc.
To remain aware of developments in his industry, Mr. Stone is a premium professional member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers and a certified member and shelter behavior affiliate of the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants. He is also a canine good citizen evaluator of the American Kennel Club.
In light of his accomplishments, Mr. Stone's company was recognized five years in a row as the Best Local Dog Training Business.
