Mr. DeLong is a retired Financial Advisor with 37 years of expertise in his field. He earned a Bachelor of Arts with a double major in English and Economics & Business Administration (EBA) at Westminster College in Fulton in 1978, and began working with his father at his family's steel bridge fabrication business, DeLong's Inc. where he realized a talent for business management despite fears of leading an industrial business during a time of major change in the American economy. In 1984, Mr. DeLong was named president of DeLong's after graduating from the University of Missouri in Columbia with a Master of Business Administration (MBA).
In 1986, after seeing an advertisement for Edward Jones in the Wall Street Journal, Mr. DeLong decided to explore a career in financial services away from the family business in the industrial sector. He joined Edward Jones as a Financial Advisor the same year, launching a 27-year career with the company. Mr. DeLong remained a Financial Advisor at Edward Jones until 2014, when he was recruited to work as a Financial Advisor and Senior Vice President at Morgan Stanley and transitioned into portfolio management and financial advising responsibilities. In recognition of his industry knowledge and service to clients, he was named one of the Springfield Business Journal's Top Wealth Advisors in 2014 and was included in Forbes' Best In State Wealth Advisor Award program six years in a row. In 2023, Mr. DeLong retired from Morgan Stanley to teach at Ozarks Technical Community College (OTC), where he is an adjunct professor.

He served as chair of the board of trustees for Ozarks Technical Community College and sits on the board of the OTC Foundation, and the Finance, Economics, and Risk Management Board of Advisors at Missouri State University. In the early 1990's he served on the Missouri Secretary of State's Securities Advisory Panel. Mr. DeLong credits his success to knowing his strengths and shortcomings and pursuing a career that used his strengths to their fullest, and to developing the soft skills needed to succeed in finance. In his retirement, Mr. DeLong is a proud grandfather and enjoys walking, cycling, playing bridge, reading, traveling, golfing, etc. with his wife Debbie who is a retired R.N.
