Leveraging more than four decades of excellence as a water quality specialist and veterinarian, Dr. Clay has earned distinction as the president and owner of VETTA Consulting, LLC. Since 2003, he has focused his efforts on providing consulting services for animal pharmaceutical development and support as well as for businesses that need assistance with environmental toxicology. Additionally, he is a former president and Legislative Chairman for the Oklahoma Veterinary Medical Association and is a valued member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Agronomic Association, the American Board of Veterinary Toxicology Group and the Comparative Toxicology Group. Among his professional accomplishments, he was named Veterinarian of the Year by the Oklahoma Veterinary Medical Association in 2023.
Prior to his current role, Dr. Clay began his career as a technical support veterinarian with Pharmacia Animal Health in 1977, serving in this role for 25 years. During this period, he also was a technical consultant for Upjohn from 1976 until 2003. He also taught at the Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine for eight years and served on the Excise and Equalization Board for six years. He was a key contributor to a project involving a lead pollution event that resulted in multiple animals affected and acres of land surface contaminated. He was able to develop a way to clean the contamination, ensuring the lead would not be absorbed into the plant life, collaborating effectively with the Lead Industries Association.
To prepare for his career, Dr. Clay earned a Bachelor of Science, Master of Science and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Oklahoma State University. Well-qualified in his field, he is a board-certified veterinarian and is board certified in veterinary toxicology. Within the coming years, Dr. Clay intends to perfect his vaccine that will control the reproduction of feral animals, particularly in dogs and cats, allowing for better control of stray and feral populations.
