Maria Juliana Soto-Giron channels years of experience into her dual roles with Solarea Bio

Dr. Soto-Giron has co-authored 15 scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals and holds named inventor status on Solarea's patents and applications.

Having joined Solarea in 2018 as a Bioinformatics Scientist after completing her PhD in Bioinformatics at the Georgia Institute of Technology, Dr. Soto-Giron has played a pivotal role in the development of an innovative computational platform. This platform allows for the analysis of numerous genomic components, identifying microbial candidates and genes with potential as biological therapeutics for managing chronic inflammation and promoting healthy aging. Through this groundbreaking approach, the team has successfully discovered new candidate products that have demonstrated effectiveness in preclinical studies, leading to advancements in the clinical stage. Dr. Soto-Giron's invaluable contributions have been instrumental in granting patents, establishing collaborations with premiere organizations and partnerships with companies, publishing research papers, and facilitating fundraising efforts for the company.

In the initial phase of her professional journey, Dr. Soto-Giron honed her skills as a mentor, scientist, and leader through active involvement in diverse projects and multidisciplinary teams. She collaborated with esteemed institutions such as the Colombian Institute for Science and Research, the University of Puerto Rico, Universidad Autónoma de Occidente, and Universidad del Valle, broadening her expertise and contributing to impactful research endeavors.

She is also a contributing author to the Hispanic Stars Rising Volume III, a book dedicated to featuring Hispanic role models in the U.S. In recognition of her outstanding achievements, Dr. Soto-Giron has received numerous honors and fellowships, including those from Colombian Government Institute and the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Dr. Soto-Giron's dedication to philanthropy is closely intertwined with her scientific career. She firmly believes that education is the cornerstone of enhancing individuals' well-being and fostering a more prosperous and compassionate global community. As a Latina and first-generation Ph.D. in her family, Dr. Soto-Giron remains dedicated to advocating for and inspiring girls and women to unlock their potential in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). An expert in her field, Dr. Soto-Giron holds a bachelor's degree in biology with a minor in genetics from Universidad del Valle, a master's degree in molecular biology from Universidad de Puerto Rico, and a PhD in bioinformatics from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
