Born blind in both eyes, Mr. Brennan experienced a miracle when his retina had reattached in his right eye without surgery; in infancy he had surgery to reattach his left retina to no avail. Maintaining partial vision throughout life he was able to sustain a career. Today, Mr. Brennan is now considered legally blind.
Mr. Brennan is now a retired business owner who owned and operated Brennan's Hauling for over 25 years. The business was based in Oakland, CA, where he worked in the neighboring cities. The company specialized in hauling construction and home debris and was very busy after the 1991 firestorm in Oakland. His business also included home clean outs and moving furniture for various clients. Despite his disability, Mr. Brennan led a thriving business. Since retirement, he sold his second home in Mexico and his 22-foot boat. He also discontinued his membership with the Vagabundos del Mar. He has spent much of his free time fishing in Mexico and Alaska. Among Mr. Brennan's most incredible catches includes a 466-pound, 94-inch long halibut off the coast of Alaska in Glacier Bay in 2008.
Prior to becoming an entrepreneur, Mr. Brennan worked for his grandfather at his family's restaurant in Berkeley, California, for several years.
Involved in charitable work, Mr. Brennan supports the Anne Hickley Foundation at the Children's Hospital in honor of his late girlfriend. She had previously volunteered her time at the NICU health care facility.
Mr. Brennan is grateful to his mother for pushing him to persevere and work hard toward his goals.
