Mr. Tanner is distinguished for more than 30 years of dedication to the automotive industry. As president of Redline Motorsports since 1991, he oversees the company's high-performance work on late-model General Motors cars, including Corvettes, Camaros and Cadillac CTS-Vs.
As a child, Mr. Tanner recalls spending time with his grandfather, Karl Birken, and his uncle, both of whom were engineers; due in large part to their influence, he was drawn to electronics early in life. When he obtained his driver's license as a teenager, he immediately gravitated toward cars, especially to the intricate nature of building engines. Following this interest, Mr. Tanner went on to study automotive engineering at Hudson Valley Community College, graduating in the top 2 percent of his class in 1988.
Redline Motorsports got its start as a side project while Mr. Tanner was running his other company, Patriot Glass, a commercial glass company that specialized in high-end office buildings. The hobby turned into a passion project as he found himself spending nights and weekends at the car shop. In 2011, Mr. Tanner decided to embark on a full-time career with Redline Motorsports; he closed the glass company and relocated to Florida, where the car season runs year-round.
Today, Redline Motorsports is the premier late-model GM Performance facility focused on building proven packages for street to all-out race applications on late-model vehicles. Customers seek out Redline Motorsports for its stellar reputation and because of Mr. Tanner's skill and involvement; still today, he remains very hands-on with the business, especially with engine building, calibrations, and computer reprogramming.
Among his numerous career accomplishments, Mr. Tanner is particularly proud of the reputation he has developed for building excellent cars and for developing strong relationships with clients. Notably, he also won an engine-building competition in Dubai in 2015.
Outside of work, Mr. Tanner is an avid guitar player who enjoys recording in his home studio. A social media aficionado, he shoots and edits all the videos for Redline Motorsports' social media, even using his own musical tracks. He also enjoys jet skiing and spending time with his six cats.
