RESTON, VA, September 26, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Lawrence David Goldstein has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Leveraging more than four decades of excellence as a transportation economist, Mr. Goldstein has earned distinction as a senior program officer for the Transportation Research Board of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine in Washington, DC. From 2007 until his retirement in 2021, he focused his efforts on managing research developing and applying analytical methodologies that showcased tangible effects of investing in transportation system enhancements with a special interest in airports and transit. Throughout his career, his research demonstrated that increasing accessibility within urban and regional settings via improved transportation leads to significant economic opportunities and growth, including justifying the expansion of runways at Dulles International Airport serving the Washington, D.C. region. Other airport studies applying similar analytical methods included San Francisco International, Richmond International, Piedmont-Triad International, Mammoth-Yosemite, and regional application for western West Virginia. In the transit field, his research helped to develop innovative approaches to financing joint development projects at transit system stations in Washington, D.C.; Seattle, Washington: Los Angeles, California; and elsewhere.

Among his professional accomplishments, Mr. Goldstein received an award (as part of a team from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine) for his instrumental role in establishing and structuring the Airport Cooperative Research Program. He also was honored with special recognition from the Transportation Research Board of the National Academies for his management of the ACRP graduate research award program and for his work on the National Cooperative Rail Research Program, which he managed for five years from its inception to completion, implementing the program funded under the Passenger Rail Investment and Improvement Act of 2008. Added to these, he received a letter of appreciation earlier in his career from the director of finance for Seattle Metro for creating the financing strategy for the original Downton Seattle Transportation Plan, uniting public and private sectors through an incentive development program and resulting in its successful funding.

Prior to his most recent role, Mr. Goldstein was founder and served as a principal for The SGM Group, Inc., beginning in 1992. This firm specialized in economic and market development analysis of transportation infrastructure investments. To prepare for his professional journey, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Physics and Astronomy cum laude with a minor in Music Performance from Columbia College in 1968. Following this achievement, he attained a Master of Arts in Astronomy from Columbia University in 1970 and a Master of Urban and Regional Planning in Economic Development from The George Washington University in 1974.

In the coming years, Mr. Goldstein will continue his commitment to sharing his experience with the younger generation as they gradually assume the responsibilities of continuing his and his colleagues' work. In addition, building on a lifelong commitment to classical music, he has recently become a valued member of the board of directors for the Main Street Chamber Orchestra in Berryville, Virginia, contributing to efforts for securing grants and funding for a professional organization dedicated to bringing high quality classical music performances to rural Virginia.
