Dr. Abebe has distinguished himself in health care as a medical director at Casa Promesa for more than five years.

    CLIFFSIDE PARK, NJ, September 26, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Mekonnen Abede, MD, MPH, has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. Dr. Abebe has distinguished himself in health care as a medical director at Casa Promesa for more than five years. As an infectious disease and infection control expert, he has been focused on caring for patients, supervising his team of nurse practitioners and physician assistants, and ensuring that operations run smoothly at the facility.

Casa Promesa is recognized as a skilled nursing facility with 108 beds that offers skilled nursing residential health care every day of the year for patients 18 years and older diagnosed with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)/acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS). Casas Promesa provides rehabilitation, hospice and pain management care, mental health care, substance abuse treatment, methadone maintenance, and alternative medicine options. The facility is located in the Bronx, New York, and is a part of the Acacia Network.

Before joining Casa Promesa, Dr. Abebe spent over 15 years as a program director for the HIV and AIDS program at the Terence Cardinal Cooke Health Care Center, which is a part of ArchCare, the Continuing Care Community of the Archdiocese of New York. His career caring for patients with HIV/AIDS encompasses over 30 years. Looking toward the future, Dr. Abebe is preparing to retire from his clinical work and anticipates becoming a professor to teach the next generation of physicians.

Dr. Abebe earned a Doctor of Medicine from Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia in 1975. He subsequently completed an internship and residency from Addis Ababa University in 1976 and 1984, respectively, a fellowship in clinical epidemiology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1991, an internship and residency in internal medicine from Our Lady of Mercy Medical Center in the Bronx in 1992 and 1994, and a second fellowship in infectious disease from State University of New York Health Science Center at Stonybrook in 1996. Additionally, Dr. Abebe received a medical license in Virginia and New York and board certification in infectious disease through the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Active in his professional industry, Dr. Abebe is a member of the American Medical Association, the Infectious Diseases Society of America, and the HIV Medicine Association. He attributes his continued success in the medical field to his dedication to his particular area of study and the people he chose to serve, particularly individuals with HIV and AIDS in underserved areas.
