Hugo Torres has been Inducted into the Prestigious Marquis Who's Who Biographical Registry

    REDWOOD CITY, CA, October 09, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Hugo Torres has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

After several years of teaching youth and serving in various administrative roles, Mr. Hugo Torres is currently taking on several new positions. In March 2023, Mr. Torres became a Trustee for the San Mateo County Board of Education, where he represents Area 7 and serves on the workforce housing subcommittee aimed at creating affordable housing for teachers. In May 2023, Mr. Torres helped establish the Latino Leaders Coalition of the Bay Area, an organization of elected officials working to provide opportunities to educate, engage, and empower students and families in San Mateo County. The organization will be launching its first event, a Latino Speaker Series to celebrate and honor Hispanic Heritage Month. In June 2023, Mr. Torres joined the Board of Directors for the New Leaders Council of Silicon Valley, where he serves as the Board of Operations. In August 2023, Mr. Torres became the Principal for Voices Flagship: College-Bound Language Academy, which is a TK-8 charter school serving about 400 students.

Contributory to his success, Mr. Torres spent over 15 years with after-school programs, mainly for low-income families and underserved communities of color. He recently concluded his six years of work at Saint Francis Center of Redwood City, where he served as Programs Manager for St. Francis Center, Educator and Assistant Principal for Holy Family School, and Program Director for Siena Youth Center.

In addition to his full-time endeavors, Mr. Torres has been actively committed to being a life-long learner and participating in different programs. In 2023, he was a participant in the Chamber of San Mateo County's Leadership Program. In 2022, he was a fellow of the New Leaders Council of Silicon Valley and became a Dominican Associate for the Sinsinawa Dominicans. Currently, and Mr. Torres is participating as a fellow for Silicon Valley Next.

Inspired as a first-generation Latino and child of immigrants, Mr. Torres grew up with a sense of privilege and responsibility compared to others with similar backgrounds, which led to his work in education and nonprofits. Seeking to establish his own nonprofit in the future, Mr. Torres envisions an organization that would cater to children from low-income families and marginalized communities of color. Among a myriad of services, he wants to focus on education and provide early childcare, a school, and an after-school program to help prepare and create a pathway for youth to college and career.

Involved with various nonprofit organizations, Mr. Torres began volunteering for an after-school program at the age of 13. During his senior year of high school, he was hired as a supervisor for the entire organization of the Cicero Youth Commission, spending a total of 10 years with the organization.

Mr. Torres graduated from Dominican University in 2017, earning a Bachelor of Arts in American Studies with a minor in Business Administration and a K-9 certification in education with endorsements in language arts, social studies, and mathematics. Most recently, in May 2023, Mr. Torres received his Master's in Nonprofit Administration from the University of San Francisco. He graduated with straight A's and was inducted into four honor societies: Pi Alpha Alpha, Pi Gamma Mu, Nu Lambda Mu, and Beta Gamma Sigma. Soon, Mr. Torres will be pursuing his doctoral degree in educational leadership.

As a testament to his success in college, Mr. Torres received numerous accolades from Dominican University, including the Golden Star Award, the Excel Scholar Award, and Student Employee of the Year. The Town President of Cicero and Executive Director of the Cicero Youth Commission also recognized him with the Volunteer Award for his work in the community. Most recently, Mr. Torres was the recipient of the 2023 Archbishop Oscar Romero Award from the University of San Francisco for being a voice for the voiceless and striving to alleviate poverty and oppression.
