Specializing in internal medicine, Dr. Arumairaj joined NYC Health+ Hospitals, the nation's largest municipal health system, in 2018. Adding to his credentials, he became an attending physician and clinical assistant professor of medicine at New York Medical College in 2021, although he has been affiliated with the institution since 2018. Balancing a busy work schedule, Dr. Arumairaj provides evaluations, diagnoses, and treatment plans for all his patients, as well as ongoing monitoring and follow-ups. He also takes the time to discuss their conditions to help them better understand their health. In addition to patient services, Dr. Arumairaj teaches and mentors medical students from New York Medical College.
During his years as a medical student in his native India, Dr. Arumairaj had the opportunity to undertake a research project sponsored by the Indian Council of Medical Research, which was one of the most challenging research projects he had ever completed. Since then, he has been involved in multiple research projects in India, Australia, and the U.S. Since his days as an intern, he developed a strong passion for critical care medicine. During his residency in Anesthesiology in India he was awarded the B. Braun Foundation Scholar for excellence in the field of Anesthesiology. Subsequently relocating to Australia, he was trained in Internal Medicine with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians from 2010 to 2014 and in Emergency Medicine with the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine from 2014 to 2018. He completed his basic physician training and was in his early phase advanced training in emergency medicine when moved to the US. Dr. Arumairaj is keen on pursuing a career in pulmonary critical care and clinical research in the US.
Looking toward the future, Dr. Arumairaj aims to complete his pulmonary critical care fellowship with plans to work as an attending physician in a university hospital. He also envisions participating in research activities and publishing works in the U.S. and across the world.
Passionate about giving back, Dr. Arumairaj remains affiliated with a blood donation group in India and has been aligned with the Australian Red Cross. In 2004, he volunteered after a tsunami struck India.
Dr. Arumairaj graduated from the PSG Institute of Medical Sciences and Research in India with a Bachelor of Medicine Bachelor of Surgery in 2005. He then completed his residency in anesthesiology at Stanley Medical College in India in 2009.
Active in the medical community, Dr. Arumairaj is a member of numerous professional organizations in the U.S., including the American College of Physicians, Society or Critical Care Medicine, American Thoracic Society, and the American College of Chest Physicians. He was affiliated with the Australian Medical Association, Royal Australasian College of Physicians, Australasian College for Emergency Medicine in Australia, and the Indian Society of Anesthesiologists in India.
