Throughout his career, Mr. Embry has represented thousands of clients regarding personal injury, workers' compensation, the Longshore and Harborworkers' Compensation Act, and product liability. While working in Groton, Connecticut, he became involved with the electric boat shipyard and union, through which he discovered numerous severe health challenges that the workers had been facing. Becoming actively involved nationally, Mr. Embry was influential in protecting them and helping prevent them from further harm. Additionally, he found success in occupational health and became instrumental in tackling issues related to lung disease and vibration white finger and hearing loss. Mr. Embry successfully implemented various safety measures, such as breathing and hearing protection, and made a real difference in the industry and those working there.
Aside from his continued commitments in the courtroom, Mr. Embry has authored numerous legal articles and has lectured professionally on workplace injuries, toxic torts, occupational disease, and workers' compensation. He has also served as an editor for the Longshore and Harbor Workers Textbook and as a member of the editorial board of the BRB Reporter.
During an earlier stage of his career, Mr. Embry was an associate at Turney & Hensley in Great Bend, Kansas, in 1976. He also served as a staff aide to President Richard Nixon at The White House in Washington from 1969 to 1972. As an aid, Mr. Embry was fortunate to observe the inner workings of the White House and was proud to provide the President with a comprehensive news summary each day, giving him a clear picture of the nation's state.
Heavily engaged in civic matters, Mr. Embry has served on various committees and boards of directors. He also served on the Dean's Advisory Council in the School of International Service at American University from 2002 to 2022 and, during an earlier stage of his career, chaired the Groton Housing Authority.
Mr. Embry's passion for foreign affairs led him to pursue a career in law. Graduating from American University in 1971, he received a Bachelor of Arts. Continuing his studies, Mr. Embry was accepted to the University of Connecticut, where he earned a Juris Doctorate in 1976. He has been admitted to practice by the Connecticut Bar Association, the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd, 5th, and 9th Circuits.
Aligned with several industry-related organizations, Mr. Embry has served in various positions with the Department of Labor-Joint Bar Association, the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, the Maritime Claimants Attorneys Association, and the Connecticut Bar Association. He is also a member of the National Academy of Social Insurance.
In light of his accomplishments, Mr. Embry received the Irving Selikoff Award in 2007 from Mount Sinai Hospital for representing individuals with occupational lung and heart diseases.
