BLANCHARD, OK, December 12, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Sidna Trimmell has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

With more than two decades of excellence in disability advocacy and rights, Ms. Trimmell has earned distinction as the executive director of the Oklahoma Statewide Independent Living Council. Since 2010, she has focused her efforts on collaborating with agencies and independent living centers in the state to write a state plan that is translated to their state policy. This policy advocates for individuals with disabilities and protects their rights, ensuring individuals are not institutionalized against their will, and lays out a three-year plan of goals and objectives for providing services, information and education for people with disabilities. Additionally, she lends her expertise to the Governor's Council on the Employment of People with Disabilities and the Interagency Council on Homelessness, as well as the Association of Programs for Rural Independent Living and the National Association of Statewide Independent Living Councils.

Outside of her primary career efforts, Ms. Trimmell was an athletic trainer for the United States Olympic track and field team in Atlanta and has served as a speaker for the United States Department of Labor for regional conference roundtables. She is also a valued member of the Oklahoma Association of Career and Employment Professionals, the Oklahoma City Metro Employer Council and the OKC Metro Disability Resource Alliance, among other professional organizations in her field.

Likewise dedicated to civil advocacy, Ms. Trimmell is a volunteer member for the OKC Arts Council New Year's opening night celebration and the OKC Arts Festival committee. Added to these, she is a founding member of the Oklahoma Large Animal First Responders, Inc. and serves as the director of development and board secretary for Our Mims Retirement Haven horse sanctuary in Paris, KY, as she is a compassionate thoroughbred horse owner as well. She also founded the OKC Metro Disability Resource Alliance in 2004.

Prior to her current position, Ms. Trimmell began her career as a sales reporting, profit loss and financial analyst for CKE Restaurants in 1998 and became a program manager for a disability program with the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission, and the United States Department of Labor in 2003. In this role, she assessed clients' needs and rehabilitation plans while collaborating with physicians, psychologists and occupational therapists to ensure they were compatible with their goals. She also was a lead coordinator for disaster relief and recovery during Hurricane Katrina.

Ms. Trimmell continued her career as the Oklahoma operations manager for the United States Department of Commerce Bureau of the Census in 2008, providing administrative support for the 2010 census in the state. Among her professional accomplishments, she was twice honored with a Jim West Disability Advocacy Award from the Paralyzed Veterans of America Mid-America chapter. She received recognition three times for being the Most Valuable Team Player for CKE Restaurants.

To prepare for her professional journey, Ms. Trimmell earned a Bachelor of Science in health and sports science with a minor in sports psychology from the University of Oklahoma in 1997. Within the coming years, she intends to not only continue her work in her local community, but also to engage with her field nationally while introducing Oklahomans with disabilities to the advocacy and the services Independent Living offers.
