From 1996 to 2018, for example, she was a Visiting Professor of Pathology at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Chicago, IL; and from 1995 to 2017, she taught at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science at North Chicago Medical School as a Clinical Professor of pathology. Currently, she is part of the adjunct faculty at UT Health Houston McGovern Medical School and at Rush Medical College, the medical school of Rush University in Chicago and affiliated with Rush University Medical Center, where she previously held the rank of Professor of Pathology from 1989 to 2019. From 1986 to 1988, she held the same title at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, formerly known as the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, NJ. Likewise, from 1983 to 1988, she held the same position at the Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, PA and Temple University, Philadelphia, PA. During the course of her career, she was an invited speaker at practically all of the University hospitals throughout the country, including the Ivy League and outside of the USA.
Appointments to other distinct positions have marked milestones in Dr. Bharati's career. For example, she served in the Department of Pediatrics at Rush Medical College as an assistant professor from 1975 to 1977 then achieved the rank of associate professor in 1977; concurrently, she was active as an associate professor in the Department of Pathology at Rush University Medical Center from 1977 to 1982. Dr. Bharati also accumulated ample experience at the University of Illinois Chicago, at the Chicago campus, first as a research associate in medicine in 1973, then progressing in 1975 to the role of research assistant professor of medicine. In 1976, she achieved the rank of research associate professor of medicine before advancing to full professor in 1982.
Dr. Bharati has been recognized for her unique expertise as well as for her numerous contributions to the field of cardiology. She proudly accepted the Woman in Science Award from the American Medical Women's Association in 2004, and she is proud to have earned a feature in Fortune Magazine. Noting her distinct professional profile, she was selected for inclusion in multiple editions of Who's Who of American Women (1985 and 1987), and Dr. Bharati earned the Who's Who Humanitarian Award in 2021 and the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award in 2019.
Numerous additional commendations have shaped Dr. Bharati's profile. For example, the Citizenship Council of Chicago named her Outstanding New Citizen (1976-1977). She also received fellowships from the American Heart Association and the Council on Cardiovascular Disease in the Young. Moreover, the Heart Rhythm Society recognized her as a fellow, as did the American College of Cardiology. In further service to the city of Chicago, Dr. Bharati accepted the appointment as president of the Chicago Medical Society, serving from 2007 to 2008 and as Chair of the Board of the Chicago Medical Society 2008-2009.
She thoroughly enjoyed presenting her unique heart specimen exhibit with the clinical history, echo and scans of the heart at the AHA and ACC yearly meetings, where she exchanged knowledge with healthcare professionals from around the globe.

Dr. Bharati was also a senior author of "Pathology of Congenital Heart Disease: A Personal Experience With More Than 6,300 Congenitally Malformed Hearts," a two-volume compilation in 1996. The opportunity to work alongside Dr. Maurice Lev, a leading expert in congenital heart issues, and finish their collaborative research remains one of the distinct highlights of Dr. Bharati's career.
