Mr. Miller joined Duffy+Duffy as a project manager in 2007 and became vice president in 2011. Distinguished for his expertise, Mr. Miller has achieved the designation as one of only 50 exam-tested and certified cost segregation professionals in the U.S. by the American Society of Cost Segregation Professionals. He has also become a regular speaker on cost segregation for the National Business Institute and the Ohio, Michigan, and Pennsylvania CPA Societies. Additionally, Mr. Miller has authored numerous articles in CPA Trendlines, Builder's Exchange, Properties Magazine, and other leading industry publications.
Before joining his firm, Mr. Miller was employed by the City of Lorain in Ohio as the chief deputy auditor from 1993 to 1999 and as the director of public service and public safety between 2000 and 2006. He also garnered success as a tax commissioner agent for the State of Ohio from 1992 to 1993. Moreover, Mr. Miller spent nearly two decades in education as an adjunct faculty of accounting and finance in the accounting and business law department at Cleveland State University and at Lorain County Community College in Ohio between 1996 and 2014.
Civically invested, Mr. Miller supports various nonprofit and charitable organizations, including Catholic Charities, The Salvation Army, and Goodwill Industries International Inc. Inspired by many personal experiences since his youth, he is committed to helping make the world a better place by providing mentorship, job search assistance, and support for younger professionals that are facing various difficulties.
Mr. Miller graduated from Cleveland State University with a Bachelor of Business Administration and a Master of Business Administration in finance in 1990 and 1991, respectively. He also received designation as a certified cost segregation professional through the American Society of Cost Segregation Professionals, certified government financial manager through the Association of Government Accountants, and he is a licensed Certified Public Accountant through the Accountancy Board of Ohio. Mr. Miller is also a Chartered Global Management Accountant and has been a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants for over 27 years.
As part of his continued commitments to his field, Mr. Miller has been affiliated with many professional organizations, including the Association of Government Accountants, the Michigan Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants. He is also active with the NAIOP Commercial Real Estate Development Association, serving 2 appointed terms including serving as the chairperson of its national tax and finance subcommittee and as a member of the NAIOP State of Ohio board of directors. He is also recognized as an associate member of the American Institute of Architects and as a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers. Furthermore, Mr. Miller has been heavily involved with the U.S. Green Building Council in various capacities. He presently serves on the Ohio chapter of its regional leadership advisory team. In celebrating his accomplishments, Mr. Miller was recognized by Real Estate Journals and Midwest Real Estate News with induction into the Real Estate Hall of Fame in 2022. He was also recognized as a Member of the Year by the Northern Ohio chapter of NAIOP in 2017.
