WOODLAND, WA, February 05, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Richard G. Lillie, MPH, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

With more than four decades of excellence in public health administration, Mr. Lillie has earned distinction as a consultant. Since 2013, he has focused his efforts on conducting surveillance on foodborne illnesses and leading epidemiological research to determine their causes. Additionally, he lends his expertise to the American Civil Liberties Union, the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, the Southern Poverty Law Center, the Union of Concerned Scientists and The Nature Conservancy.

Prior to his present role, Mr. Lillie served honorably in the United States Navy, Marine Corps and Army from 1966 until 1992, serving in both Vietnam and Iraq. Following his military service, he worked as a consumer safety inspector for the United States Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service in 1995 until becoming a state shellfish standardization officer for the Washington Department of Health in 2003.

To prepare for his career, Mr. Lillie earned a Bachelor of Arts in East Asian studies from Union College in 1972. In 2006, a nationwide outbreak of Vibrio parahaemolyticus-associated foodborne illness occurred, which was linked to Washington oysters. Through his stellar work, he was able to curb the epidemic by selectively closing the growing areas and prohibiting shipments, playing a crucial role in containing the outbreak and averting a potentially catastrophic crisis.
