Drawing on years of professional experience in nursing and education, Ms. Nyheim excels as the senior director of nursing, the director of nursing education, development, and research, the Magnet program director, and the director of nursing quality for UC San Diego Health. Although semi-retired, she currently devotes two days a week to assisting UC Health in acquiring a new hospital and managing special projects. Similarly, Ms. Nyheim collaborates with the new hospital chief nursing officer to evaluate and update their nursing practice.
During the early stages of her career, Ms. Nyheim gained valuable expertise in nursing education as an adjunct faculty member in the School of Nursing at the University of San Diego. An expert in her field, she earned an associate degree in nursing in 1973. Subsequently, she expanded her professional knowledge by earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from California State University in 1993 and a Master of Science in Nursing from San Diego State University in 2006.
Driven to remain abreast of changes in the field, Ms. Nyheim is affiliated with Sigma Theta Tau and the American Association of Critical Care Nurses. While her career has been filled with highlights, she takes the most pride in the University of California being designated as a Magnet organization three times. Though hard work and dedication have brought her far in her career, she credits her success to being a lifelong learner. Looking forward, Ms. Nyheim aims to have her contract with UC San Diego Health extended and continue to pursue her hobbies at home.
