As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Ms. Varma has been a distinguished figure in emerging market finance at the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and a member of the World Bank Group in Washington, D.C., since 2013. She is currently a financial product manager and developer overseeing IFC's Managed Co-Lending Portfolio Program (MCPP) from its original design and inception in 2013 and, including strategy, ongoing product development, fundraising, investor relations, and portfolio management of the ~$16 billion raised from 17 global institutional investors and insurers. Ms. Varma has significantly contributed to global economic development by bringing institutional investors into senior loans to private sector borrowers in emerging markets and developing economies at scale for the first time. Her latest MCPP iteration has been highlighted at the United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP) in recent years for providing impact investing opportunities that tangibly contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals and align with sustainable finance objectives, including the Paris Agreement on mitigating climate change and other ESG taxonomies. Further, the design of the structured debt funds, which leverage donors for credit enhancement, won the product an award for innovation from the Financial Times in 2017.

Prior to her current position, she was a senior vice president within Macquarie's Credit Risk division in New York, where she created the group's first Country Risk function, including designing the tools and procedures and building a team from 2010 to 2012.

Ms. Varma's career began at Lucent Technologies (now Nokia) from 2000 to 2007, where she first participated in the company's three-year Financial Leadership Development Program, rotating through various finance functions primarily at the headquarters in New Jersey. She then developed her core governance skills as an internal control manager, focusing on Sarbanes-Oxley and business continuity planning. Afterward, she joined Lucent's Treasury department first as a capital markets manager. Then she moved to Hong Kong as the regional treasury manager for the Asian Pacific and China. It was in this last role with Lucent in Hong Kong that Ms. Varma began developing her on-the-ground expertise in emerging markets and developing economies, including an understanding of the complex regulatory differences. After leaving Lucent, she remained in Hong Kong, joining the IFC, covering loan syndications for the region before returning to the IFC later in her career for her current role.

The educational background of Ms. Varma's has been integral to her professional success. She earned a Master of Public Administration in economic policy management from Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs in 2008, graduating with a perfect 4.0 grade point average. Prior to that, she graduated, magna cum laude, with a Master of Arts in management from Babson College's F.W. Olin Graduate School of Business in 2003. Her academic journey began with a Bachelor of Arts with a double major in economics and business management from Goucher College in 2000, where she was awarded membership to the Phi Beta Kappa Academic Honor Society.

The influence of her parents' remarkable success stories—both prominent in telecommunications, with her father becoming a vice president at Bell Labs and President/CIO at several telecommunications companies after immigrating from India and her mother receiving the prestigious Bell Labs Fellow award recognizing her contributions to optical transport infrastructure development—has been a driving force behind Ms. Varma's aspirations and achievements.

Outside of her professional endeavors, Ms. Varma leads a fulfilling personal life that includes raising her child Eliyanah and engaging in activities such as travel, dancing, yoga, and hiking that contribute to her well-being and balance. Her commitment to her career and personal life exemplifies the qualities that Marquis Who's Who seeks to honor.
