NEWBURY PARK, CA, February 27, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Joseph A. Hackett has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

For nearly 35 years, Mr. Hackett enjoyed an extensive legal career characterized by his experience in bankruptcy law coupled with an extensive 20-year background in criminal law. Prior to working in legal field, he served in the United States Marine Corps for almost five years and received a bachelor's degree in philosophy and theatre arts from California State University, Northridge. Although Mr. Hackett's true career passion resided in acting, which he pursued professionally for a decade following his undergraduate education, the industry's limited employment prospects prompted him to redirect his career path toward law, his second career choice, where he excelled and provided invaluable assistance to numerous individuals.

While studying law at the University of La Verne, Mr. Hackett worked as both a bartended and a taxi driver until he graduated in 1975 with a Juris Doctor. In reflecting on the highlights of his professional career, he takes great pride in having representing a woman who sought to divide a pension as part of community property, a task hindered by the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974. Undeterred, he undertook the four-year-long case on a pro bono basis—an act that exemplifies his unwavering commitment to provide legal services for the greater good—and successfully persuaded the court they possessed the authority to split the pension, thereby securing a favorable outcome for the woman.

Along with that noteworthy case, Mr. Hackett represented and successfully defended numerous students who faced challenges from faculty staff and were sanctioned for their speech. Along with maintaining a perfect win record in that particular area of law, he significantly contributed toward three high-profile cases during his career and was interviewed on the news as a result of his involvement. Furthermore, Mr. Hatchett has received numerous appreciation awards from clients—acknowledgement that reflects his exceptional dedication and effectiveness in serving their legal needs.

Coupled with being a celebrated lawyer, Mr. Hackett has concurrently acted as an educator, sharing his legal knowledge to serve his local community. For 25 years, he acted as the legal director of the San Francisco Free Clinic, overseeing not only the organization's programs but also actively teaching individuals how to navigate the complexities of divorce. Additionally, Mr. Hatchett served as a volunteer judge pro tempore for both the Los Angeles Superior Court and the Los Angeles Municipal Court for three decades. Outside of the legal sphere, he volunteered as a coach for Mid Valley Youth Baseball in the San Fernando Valley for several years.

After nearly four decades in private practice, through the Law Offices of John J. Hackett, PLLC, in New York, Mr. Hackett retired from practice in 2019. He continues to hold membership with the San Fernando Valley Bar Association, the Los Angeles County Bar Association, and the American Bar Association and is a former member of the American Civil Liberties Union and the American National Theatre and Academy. In reflecting on all he has pursued and achieved, Mr. Hackett credits his success to his marriage of 45 years. Looking forward, he plans to remain intellectually involved in his field by teaching various law classes, specifically those focusing on civil procedure and criminal law, to senior citizens in his local community.
