Mr. Verenna initially pursued an education at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pennsylvania, earning a Bachelor of Science in chemistry, magna cum laude, and a secondary education certification in 1990. He also garnered a master's degree in chemistry education from DeSales University in 1997. Mr. Verenna's mother's work ethic and emphasis on education have been pivotal to his accomplishments and continue to influence his teaching philosophy today.

Mr. Verenna was named as a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society through Muhlenberg College. In light of his success, Mr. Verenna was recognized with an American Chemical Society Award for the highest chemistry average during his college years in 1990. He was also included in Who's Who Among America's High School Teachers. Furthermore, Mr. Verenna was fortunate to receive a grant from the Parkland Education Association.
