Eric D. Chavez Recognized for Service to the United States Postal Service

Mr. Chavez received the Postmaster General Award from the CEO in 2010 as well as numerous Area Vice President awards throughout his career.

Mr. Chavez is a retired government employee and public servant who dedicated his career to leadership in the United States Postal Service. He holds a Bachelor of Science in business management from the University of Phoenix, and has pursued numerous opportunities for continuing professional development, including attending the Harvard Business School executive program in 2005. Mr. Chavez is driven by his philosophy to center and support "people, performance, and productivity," a credo that has guided his journey as an executive and as an organizational leader throughout his career.

Mr. Chavez began his career as a mail carrier in 1986 and rose through the ranks at the United States Postal Service, becoming the Postmaster of the city of Chicago, IL in 2002. His team worked on improving the customer experience as well as employee relations among the six thousand employees. His performance led to promotions as Executive Plant Manager in both West Palm Beach and Tampa, FL. He continued his journey of service achievements as well as improving the employee experience in each of these assignments. After spending seven years as an Executive Plant Manager, Mr. Chavez was promoted to the Gulf Atlantic District where he led over 12,000 employees who worked inside the processing operations as well as the delivery, collection and retail services across northern Florida and southern Georgia. He was recognized as one of the top executives in the entire organization and was promoted to Southern Area Manager Operations Support in 2012. In this role Mr. Chavez was responsible for 47 different processing operations and maintenance and also delivery throughout the southeast United States. During this time Mr. Chavez studied to become Green Belt certified in Lean Six Sigma to improve efficiency. In 2015, he was promoted again to District Manager in Tampa, FL, where he demonstrated exceptional growth for the next four years. Mr. Chavez's continued his pursuit of a Black Belt in Lean Six Sigma and finalized his project saving over $1.5 million dollars in transportation. Mr. Chavez was named Area Vice President in 2019, supervising all operations, finances, marketing and human resources for Postal Service operations in eight states in the northeast as well as Puerto Rico, and the United States Virgin Islands. As one of the organization's top executives, Mr. Chavez directly managed a team of 41 executives and oversaw nearly 90,000 employees and administered a territorial budget of $8.3 billion annually. He reported to the Chief Operating Officer of the Postal Service. Mr. Chavez worked with various Fortune 500 companies during his executive career partnering with the Postal Service on their shipping and operational needs. In 2020, after 35 years of distinction with the United States Postal Service, Mr. Chavez retired from his role to pursue consulting work.

In recognition of his exceptional career and leadership, Mr. Chavez was named the United States Postal Service's National Engagement Leader of the Year in 2017, an honor he considers a career highlight. He credits his success to his dedication to treating others with fairness and respect and to his ability to balance ambition with a level-headed approach to operations. He was also named the Engagement Leader of the Year for the southern area of the United States in both 2017 and 2018. Throughout his career, Mr. Chavez has remained committed to mentoring others and nurturing the next generation of leaders by creating opportunities for growth and advancement and speaking at leadership conferences. Mr. Chavez received the Postmaster General Award from the CEO in 2010 as well as numerous Area Vice President awards throughout his career. In his retirement, he enjoys boating and golf, and sits on the board of a men's golf association, where he is responsible for organizing tournaments, assisting in creating the direction of the club and other events.
