EDEN PRAIRIE, MN, April 04, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Asad Aliweyd has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Drawing on more than 20 years of economic development experience and a proven track record of asset and wealth building, Dr. Aliweyd excels as the founder and executive director of New American Development Center. A Somali-born immigrant and dedicated community advocate, he manages programs and services that address community needs, oversees staffing matters, and develops fundraising efforts. Likewise, Dr. Aliweyd helps immigrant families build wealth and assets and collaborates with the board to identify and implement strategic plans.

During the early stages of his career, Dr. Aliweyd was a mathematics teacher at Eden Prarie High School, where he taught pre-algebra, geometry, algebra, pre-calculus, and calculus. Between 2008 and 2012, he prepared and planned lessons that accommodated each individual student's needs, collaborated with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed, and managed student behavior in the classroom. Before starting his professional journey, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in mathematics and teaching from Metropolitan State University. Subsequently, Dr. Aliweyd received an MBA and Ph.D. in management and public service from Hamline University in 2013 and 2023, respectively.

Driven to remain abreast of changes in the field, Dr. Aliweyd aligns himself with the Hennepin County Human Resource Board, the Twin Cities Community Land Bank Board, the Alliance for Metropolitan Stability Board, and the Twin Cities Equally Communication Group. He founded the Southwest Innovative Community Council and Eden Prarie Affordable Housing Coalition in conjunction with his work. Additionally, Dr. Aliweyd is the Community Engagement Steering Committee chair and the Somali Community Task Force.

Due to his vast breadth of knowledge, Dr. Aliweyd was selected as a commencement speaker for the graduating class of 2024 at Hamline University. He has also won the Metropolitan Council Corridor Opportunity Award in 2014, Leadership Awards through the Bush Fellowship between 2018 and 2020, contributions, being a Democratic national delegate (2016), and an East African Community Service Award in 2021. While his career has been filled with highlights, Dr. Aliweyd takes the most pride in establishing the New American Development Center in 2008 and playing a crucial role in the creation of the Light Rail System program in Minnesota, where he ensured that the rail system was inclusive and equitable for low-income immigrants and underserved communities. Dr. Aliweyd has remained committed to affordable housing throughout his career through the Eden Prairie Affordable Housing Coalition.

Though hard work and dedication have brought him far in his career, Dr. Aliweyd credits his success to his desire to assist immigrants and refugees in finding suitable housing and employment opportunities and building assets and wealth. Within the coming years, he intends to finish writing his book, "With the Difficulties Comes Ease," which chronicles the difficulties faced in his home country and the devastating effects of civil war. Ultimately, Dr. Aliweyd aims to continue providing his fellow immigrants with assistance and guidance. In recent months, he applied for a position in the Biden-Harris administration at the White House, a role he hopes to hear about soon.
