Felicia C. Pendleton Inducted into the Prestigious Marquis Who's Who Biographical Registry

Ms. Pendleton has dedicated her career to working in the field of education, where she specializes in special education with a focus on creating inclusive and effective learning environments. Since 2018, she has taught at Woodridge Elementary in San Antonio, where she has become known for her expertise in drafting high-quality Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), managing classroom behavior, and fostering positive student-teacher relationships. Day to day, her role as a special education teacher involves developing curricula tailored to each student's abilities and collaborating with parents and staff to ensure every child reaches their full potential.

Ms. Pendleton earned her Bachelor of Science in Rehabilitation Psychology and Special Education in 2010 from The University of Wisconsin-Madison. Before her tenure at Woodridge Elementary, Ms. Pendleton taught in Madison, WI for seven years at Glenn Stephens Elementary in MMSD where she served as a Cross Categorical Teacher for primary students in grades 4k-1st. Throughout her career, she has demonstrated a deep understanding of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) standards and has been adept at aligning instruction to meet these benchmarks across various subjects for grades kindergarten through fifth. Her comprehensive content knowledge, particularly in math, reading, and writing, has allowed her to effectively differentiate and scaffold curriculum to support each student's learning journey.

Most recently, for her dedication and outstanding contributions, Ms. Pendleton was honored as Teacher of the Year at Woodridge Elementary in 2023—recognition that empowered her to pursue additional awards within the city, ultimately resulting in her subsequent acknowledgment by the Alamo Area Alliance of Black School Educators as an Outstanding Special Education Teacher and being named a state semi-finalist for the HEB Excellence in Education Award the same year. Such accolades and honors not only reflect the impact she has on her students but on the broader educational community as well.

Along with her foundational degree, Ms. Pendleton credits the support she received from her mentors as being critical to her effectiveness as a teacher. In addition to building a student-centered classroom, her intentional collaboration with her partner teachers, and the desire to continuously learn have been pivotal in shaping her approach to teaching. When general education teachers are open to embracing new perspectives, leaving behind outdated notions of special education, Ms. Pendleton can co-author magnificent opportunities for impactful collaboration that benefits all students.

Ms. Pendleton's commitment to supporting those around her extends beyond the classroom. Her passion for service is evident through her long-standing involvement with Touched Twice Madison, a free medical and dental clinic, where she previously volunteered before stepping into her role as clinic director from 2010-2017. Through her leadership, the organization was able to provide free medical and dental services to those in need and has implemented other initiatives as well, such as providing free clothes, operating a food pantry, offering facials, and organizing chiropractic services.

Overall, in both the classroom and her community at large, Ms. Pendleton remains steadfast in her commitment to community well-being. Looking forward, she is focused on furthering her impact in the field of education by becoming an IEP coach for emerging special educators to help them sharpen their skills in writing professional legal documents so they can ensure they are truly individualizing each document to best address each student's specific needs, strengths, and weaknesses. While supporting new educators, Ms. Pendleton will work to complete a graduate program in school counseling to advance within the educational sector, expand her expertise, and continue to make a difference in both the lives of her students and the next generation of educators.
