Brody Berkhout Honored by Marquis Who's Who for Military Service and Small Business Success

Brody Berkhout is an accomplished entrepreneur and proud U.S. Navy veteran

Among his professional accomplishments, Brody is most proud of establishing a new business in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic that decimated a number of small businesses.

VIRGINIA, BEACH, VA, April 26, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Brody Berkhout has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Drawing on three decades of leadership experience as a submarine officer in the U.S. Navy, Brody specializes in corporate team training and leadership development. Retiring in 2019 as a Captain, Brody had an impressive military career, eventually serving as the commanding officer of three nuclear-powered submarines, including USS Asheville (SSN-758), USS Seawolf (SSN-21), and USS Ohio (SSGN-726). During his military service, he completed seven deployments, which included multiple operations in support of the Global War on Terrorism. In addition to submarine deployments, Brody twice conducted operations in the Arctic Ocean and surfaced USS Seawolf at the North Pole.

Retiring from military service just as the COVID-19 pandemic was starting, Brody saw an opportunity for people and businesses isolated by health protocols to reconnect by playing tabletop games online. With a mission to bridge virtual role-playing games with leadership development in the workplace, Brody founded Admiral Adventures in 2020. Through this independent small business, Brody facilitates virtual tabletop games, such as Dungeons & Dragons, to improve teamwork in fast-paced corporate environments while having fun at the same time. His training programs apply across the entire business spectrum, from small family-owned businesses to the executive leadership of the largest corporations. In addition to team training, Brody also creates custom "battle maps" for use in virtual tabletop applications like Roll20 and provides audio engineering consulting services to anyone who wishes to improve the audio quality of their virtual meetings or podcasts.

Brody holds an array of academic credentials and award citations. He graduated 19th overall from the United States Naval Academy in 1990 with a bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering. In his senior year at the Naval Academy, he was selected to serve as the Deputy Brigade Commander, the second highest midshipmen leadership position at the academy. Following graduation, he attended the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, graduating in 1992 with a master's degree in ocean acoustics. During his military career, he earned master's degree equivalents from the Naval Postgraduate School in operations research and statistical analysis, computer network systems and operations, and financial management. Brody's personal decorations and awards while serving in the U.S. Navy include the Legion of Merit Medal (3 awards), the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (4 awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Navy Commendation Medal (3 awards), and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2 awards).

Additional designations and accolades further define Brody's profile. A South Dakota native, he was selected as a Presidential Scholar for the state in 1986. He also earned All-American Track and Field (honorable mention) honors in 1986, was a two-time State Champion in Track and Field, held the state 200-meter record for 33 years until it was broken in 2019, and was selected as South Dakota's Prep Athlete of the Year in 1986. He also enjoys flying and has earned his private pilot's license.

Among his professional accomplishments, Brody is most proud of establishing a new business in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic that decimated a number of small businesses. Leveraging the current resurgence of Dungeons & Dragons as it celebrates its 50th anniversary, Brody is pioneering the fusion of corporate training and tabletop gaming. Brody cites tenacity and vision, skills he relied upon as a commanding officer, as the foundations of his entrepreneurial success. He also credits his wife's unwavering support and a personal commitment to consistently prioritize the interests of his peers, colleagues, and customers toward delivering exceptional service while having fun at the same time.

Looking toward the future, Brody aims to expand Admiral Adventures nationally. He plans to welcome more associates to his company team, in particular game masters, who can manage operations in his absence. Additionally, Brody is eager to attract other professional game masters to the industry and provide them constructive mentorship and guidance so that more people can connect and have fun through the amazing world of tabletop games.
