She graduated from secretarial school in 1974 and worked as an administrative assistant across several industries. In 1994, after her employer suddenly shut down, Ms. Hunt-Washington decided to pursue postsecondary education, and in 1997, she earned a bachelor's degree in human services from Metropolitan College of New York. After working with elderly clients in a senior center during her internship, she decided to focus her career on social work, and in 2002, she was awarded a Master of Social Work from New York University.
