Mr. Compton has led a diverse, rewarding career in the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) industry for over 25 years. Initially introduced to the field after being laid off from a machine shop and discovering an opportunity in refrigeration, he was acquired by Western Refrigeration as a service technician from 1979 to 1983. Over the next 40 years, Mr. Compton rose to become a successful business owner, beginning as the president of Arctic Refrigeration and Heating between 1983 and 1991 and now as the longtime founder and chief executive officer of Blue C LLC, dba HVACRedu.net and HVACRedu Canada Ltd. since 1996.
In his present position, Mr. Compton oversees the management of approximately 20 employees, sets the company's vision, and ensures its implementation. He also stays updated with industry trends by attending conferences and meeting with other leaders. Mr. Compton's company specializes in online HVAC and refrigeration training.
Well-known for his success and tenure in the field, Mr. Compton also spent many years as an instructor at North Idaho College from 1991 to 2008. However, his most significant achievement has been creating an online trade school that educates people worldwide. This initiative has been accredited by the HVACR accreditation group for more than a decade and includes the It'sAboutQ.net program, which was established under the California Public Utility Commission. The program collaborates with utilities in California to promote energy efficiency and offers free training through scholarships.
Before entering the civilian workforce, Mr. Compton began his journey in the U.S. Army, serving as a reconnaissance specialist from 1972 to 1975. His military service, which included roles as a non-commissioned officer in charge of reproduction and printing propaganda for the 5th Psychological Operations Battalion, laid the foundation for his leadership skills. Following his military service, Mr. Compton pursued various technical and vocational training programs, earning numerous certifications that would later define his career.
Mr. Compton's early education included coursework in engineering at North Idaho College in 1972. He then received a certified arc welder credential from Wiesars Welding School and a V-73 certified mechanic designation from Detroit Diesel in 1975, followed by a commercial single-engine land/instrument rating license from Pearson Flight School in 1978, and an HVACR technician certificate from J.M. Perry Trade School in 1981. Subsequently, Mr. Compton earned a Bachelor of Science in adult vocational education and teaching from the University of Idaho in 1992 before completing certification in distance education from Tele-Training Academy in 1999
Mr. Compton is also deeply involved in professional organizations, civic activities, and philanthropy. He is a member of the Refrigeration Service Engineer Society and a past president of the Western International Association. He has also served as a leader in the Boy Scouts of America. Moreover, Mr. Compton has provided scholarships to students for over 15 years, including recently awarding 30 scholarships to African students. His commitment to education extends globally, impacting communities beyond his immediate reach.
Throughout his career, Mr. Compton has received numerous accolades, including recognition as one of the Top 10 Career Technical Educators by the Association of Career and Technical Education in 1998 and winning the National Dealer Design Gold Award for his ItsAboutQ.net program in 2011. Additionally, Mr. Compton was named one of the Top 25 HVACR Educators in the U.S. by ACHR News in 2024.
